I have been absolutely ASTOUNDED by the LACK of these, given the American legal export of the ambulance chaser who does it no win no fee.

1. What's the worst thing you've lost due to a glitch (data, days of your life, missing a funeral etc)
2. Should EULAs highlight any scary points (like "if it breaks we dont fix") like the dodgy insurance companies have to on TV?
3. If a program is flawed (I dont mean like "OMG you can SO fall out of the skybox in level X, but massive corporate computer programmes) should that be something you pay them to 'fix' like a plumber, or is it their duty to correct it since they sold you something faulty in the first place?

Discuss...

1. Er... programs have pissed me off. Thats about it.

2. Yes.

3. The latter. Plumbers fix stuff that's worn out. It's not the same. If a plumber fucked up when he was installing stuff, I think most people would demand they sort it out gratis.

1. 70% of a Half-life SP mod. About 4 months of intense mapping. You can imagine.

2. Yeah. People don't wait to read the whole monotonous text before clicking "install". Highlights would be good.

3. It is their duty. Hence the concept of game patches.

1. a bunch of crappy stuff i once believed was important but is now worthless. like old photoshop stuff and some music files. the source code to Planet X, in which i totally redone 2 more times after this, was lost. It was screwed up anyway. Some toolkit programs don't handle systematic scripts too well.

2. Highlight would be handy. Kas is right. Too lazy for reading a huge legal term. especially a really long one.

3. mm hmm. patchez ftw.

Heh, I should probably answer myself...

1. Nothing I couldn't redo honestly, since I've a goldfish's attention span.
2. Personally I think software should have some kind of broader grading system than adware, shareware, etc. unless its 100% freeware
3: AAAAAAAAAArgh! Company maintainance contracts, people who develop it no longer with the software people. And I'm only talking about those dickheads that write and lock access databases...

1. Probably a school project which i stupidly forgot to save, followed by a computer crash ;/
2. I would say so. Of course, just because its there doesnt mean people are gonna read it, so whats the use?
3. Its their program, they made it buggy, therefore they need to fix the fucking thing.

1. Never have--knocks on wood--unless bad CDR burns I never bothered to test, or Hammer crahes count. For the later, maybe 2 hours of work. (which is absolutely nothing compared to Kasperg's woes...YIKES :( )

2. No opinion. Does anyone actually read those anyway?

3. Yes.
