The last 2 shots are rendered with yafray with a Smoothing angle of 50 and 6 AA passes with 2 as a minimum. No fancy lightning tricks or so.

i'l texture it later this evening or this weekend.

Very nice. Looks like it should be red when you skin it .... :)

RED?! ARE U NUTS?! That so looks like it should be black and sexy.

Those wheels are pretty bad =/ They are too low poly imo.

Nice model though and good economical use of polies :)
Posted 17 years ago2006-04-28 15:21:07 UTC Post #177248
The wheels are quite standard for games like Half-Life, the texture is going to need to do the trick.

Red for sure :)

Then again:

image / adjust / heu saturation

colorize

move the slider

and there is your newly coloured car in 3 seconds :) .
Posted 17 years ago2006-04-28 16:09:44 UTC Post #177249
true. make it red so it can be adjusted. anything but white.

very nice, will be using this soon i hope.

Well, i was thinking about a red, a black, and a white one. With the last one being in a BM theme.
Posted 17 years ago2006-04-28 23:50:43 UTC Post #177278
is that considered a decent car in the UK? I just google'd some pictures of it and it's pretty ugly. :/

Don't you be dissin' boxy cars!
Posted 17 years ago2006-04-29 02:50:48 UTC Post #177284
Pepper: I think the wheels should be 8-side cylinders, if that, instead of octagon shaped. That way you still utilize a similar number of sides but they actually appear round and will smooth out a bit better. Other than the tyres it looks good.

Should look great textured. Decent car, too.

Rabid: an eight-sided 'cylinder' isn't an octagonal prism?

Its an 8-sided cylinder rabid, i just turned it 22,5 degree so the flat side would be on the bottom. Looks more like a 6 sided one, i agree on that. :)

BM skin? Thats a bit stupid... How about a blue skin too. Wont really hurt.
Posted 17 years ago2006-04-29 14:07:52 UTC Post #177352
Bleu eh? probably so yeah :)
Posted 17 years ago2006-04-29 14:36:36 UTC Post #177358
is it necessary to do that many colors? just adjust the coloring in photoshop.

But, a BM and non-BM version of each one should be done.

Give the wheels an odd number of sides like 9 or so. Itll looks less like lug nuts sticking out of the sides.

.....and some sweet flames, hydrolics, a tailfin, spinning rims, 1/2 inch tires, and a bumper sticker that says: "I brake for noobs"

here's how i did this:

http://www.sleepyghost.com/u6p/character_mapping_gmax.pdf

Well. 9 sides are definately a option, but its a pain in the ass to work with, neither will it improve the look and it will only cost polygons and rendering time.

I usualy work with 6,8,12,18,32.64 sides.

Looks nice and even :) . Better then I could do. Never really got the hang of skinning :(

You just got to pull out a few days to get the hang of it. When you got the basics then you'll be able to work on with it.

i'm writing a tutorial on uvmapping. describing a few different techniques in this and how you can use em to your advantage. Offcourse all in g-max.
Posted 17 years ago2006-04-30 09:25:22 UTC Post #177472
wow, that uvmap looks great! I'm stilling trying to get the hang of that, I'm having some trouple with the beemer and uv.. :
Looking forward to seeing the tutorial. :)

Any thoughts of a BM Motorcycle? Bus?

I'll probably model these later for my mod, but it should be in this little pack that's forming.

Maybe even expand the file and i could do fire hydrants, windows fixtures, plants, furniture, etc.

hm?

Hey Pepper, is g-max similar to XSI? Im having trouble getting the hang of UV mapping. Does that tutorial you gave also apply to XSI? Can I use it for objects instead of characters?
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-01 10:41:55 UTC Post #177675
Thats a good idea Rimrook.. Pepper, you and me should work on a BM pack. Containg high, and low definition models.

Rim unb, definately. Lets il send some PM's later to discuss this further.

Xyos, i have no idea since i dont use XSI. I dont like the feel of the program. You can use Uvmapping tutorials for anything you like, since its all the same.

On a other note: I'm having some trouble with the textures, il post a screenshot of it here later on. Its quite a pain in the ass to skin the lightning on cars.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-01 12:40:56 UTC Post #177701
i was gonna put together a pack of models, that's why i suggested it. I get tired of downloading 1 model at a time, and finding that they suck. A good vehicle pack would be used by all sorts of mappers and modders.

I'll be fair and square here, my tires are absolutely amazingly utterly ugly crap.

alright, i've said it.

Even though most modelers find it the best part of car modeling.

The lights are abit strange but the actual texture looks ok, but perhaps abit too clean if that.
RabidMonkey RabidMonkeymapmapmapfapmap

Yeah, definately to clean. And indeed, the lights could be a bit lower. There's going to be some sort of grate between them though.
