Here's my problem:

I want to have quicktime and Windows media player both on my PC. Only problem is, when I install QT it becomes default player for ALL applications! Ive tried changing it in install clicking "DO not make default player" and changed it in quicktimes property settings. I even disabled all file formats for it to play. But somehow, magically it manages to just keep playing everything I click on!

Im out of ideas. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions?

Reinstall Windows Media Player, and set it to be the default player.

right-click on the file, go to open with, then choose WMP, and select "always use this application" at the bottom

I do what Alex does and it always seems to work.

I don't see the point of having quicktime for anything though. In the 4-5 months since I've had MPC, it's worked for everything, and I've not had to use the actual Quicktime once :)

Yeah. Ditch Quicktime and get the latest Quicktime Alternative + Media Player Classic.

Throw in Real Alternative and the K-Lite Codec pack while you're at it and you'll have a winning media player.

I like to use winamp, once you get it set up, I feel it has a cleaner interface and uses less cpu than the others.

Xyos212 doesn't seem to value our feedback?! ;)

Will, at least when he returns, he has about 20 options to choose from!

Hahaha :D.

Media Player Classic wipes the floor with everything format-wise, which makes it the best (SRSLY!) for videos. Music is more of a taste thing. I'll stick with Winamp there.

I use mediaplayer, VLC and media player classic.
Stay away from winamp, it's the whorst player ever.

That's what all my friends say, but I've been using it since my first mp3! <tear, tear>

The free version of it works fine for everything I do with mp3's :)

But winamp sucks! It's ugly, not very user friendly, lags, and rapes the cpu.
Nah, i like the more "proffesional" players better...

ugly, not very user friendly, lags, and rapes the cpu.
Solution: download a theme that rectifies said problems.

Indeed. All you said there is "I don't like the default skin". I have about as much respect for people saying that as, er... something.

I dislike the player in all skins. once upon a time i downloaded winamp, i wasn't very pleased with it, but i thought "hmm... might be good for movies". So i started a movie, but winamp couldn't handle "dunderklumpen" so it died. And then i downloaded VLC, a gift from god himself. My problems went away. So now i only use stable players. windows media player for music and VLC for movies. But i got to find a better player for music, the windows mediaplayer isn't living up to my standard (oh well, it's microsoft so it can't be great) but it sure is better than winamp.

Let me guess... all your music files are wmv?

They better not be, or there's no wonder why it doesn't work right in other media players.

Nope, i don't have any wmv. Or yes i do, but i can't play them in the windows media player, i need a lisence for them... the one's listen to are all mp3 and mp4... And you can play wmv files in any player.
