Your task: Create a Web-2.0 rendition of your alias.

Example:

Judgement method: If there's no clear consensus, then a majority vote will decide.

Deadline: Tuesday the 8th of August.

Just to help the people who don't have a clue what Web-2.0 means/is:

Web 2.0 basically describes a new generation of websites/services that have the user-experience and such as first priority. Such as flickr and digg. Both also use the same design philosophies, which is what this competition is concentrating on. May the shiniest alias win! :D

The only stuff I've used for web development has been Notepad and MSPaint. What prog did u use for that and what's the standard ones for Web 2.0?

Err, okay, maybe I didn't make it clear it enough TawnosPrime, you're basically making a logo of your name with Web-2.0 design philosophies.

If you're stuck with what to use, you can use anything from MS Paint (not recommended or endorsed at all ;) ) to Photoshop or something of the like.

Come on TWHL-ers! I know there are some l33t designers among you. Get your creative juices flowing!

places on analysis cap

That is the worst attempt at a Web-2.0 logo I have ever seen. Really, why would it have BLARG or a headcrab? Lemme tell you a secret, there's more to life than Half-Life :P

Elof's coming back from his mini-holiday soon and I'm pretty sure he'll post his, maybe then it'll be even clearer what a Web-2.0 logo is.

mutters and maybe we'll get some quality around here :P

Get the fuck out.

This is the worst monthly contest ever. And you wonder why only one person has made something to submit.

When does this end? I wanna give it a shot. I did a painting recently that I could put my name over and make it all shiny. :D
Posted 17 years ago2006-08-05 23:18:58 UTC Post #192632
It ends on Tuesday 3PM-ish GMT. 'cos after that I'm going on holiday for 3 weeks and I want to be here for the judgement :D

It sounds nice and original too, do you paint much?

20 seconds in paint making the text and reflecting it, 10 secs in photoshop fading it.

(which is why it fades to white and not transparent)

better viewed on a white background:

:S you made it a transparent .png, yet you still faded to white? that's kinda silly..

if you're using photoshop, just fade it into the transparent background layer..

I took a painting I made about a month ago and simply added some text. Painting took upwards of six hours, adding text took upwards of four minutes ;)

I don't know if this is Web 2.0-ish but it's a signature.

Honestly, what kind of competition is this? Nobody has even posted anything that has taken more than 10 minutes.

Think of the Mac widget icons if you've used OSX. To do it, add an inner white shadow to give it the shiny look. Use a good typeface to make it bubbly. If you went and checked out flickr and digg as Arshy suggested instead of acting like 'tards, then you'd have an idea.

not many people are going to look for sites they never visit for a compo they dont really care about without even a link to click.

its a good idea in general, but most of the posts reflect the fact that obviously nobody knows whats going on. so posting more examples that people can conveniently click to see straight away is perfectly reasonable.

Penguinboy, i dont understand how your not getting this.
If you're stuck with what to use, you can use anything from MS Paint (not recommended or endorsed at all ) to Photoshop or something of the like.
After reading that quote and the rest of the post, look over what other people have done and put 2 and 2 together.

lol, I know what web 2.0 is, but...well although its a creative competition, I just dont like to make things big and bubbly (which is what web 2.0 is)...hows about (just an idea dont shoot me!!!) we try making an icon, a little character etc...example being (this could be a next one, Im not trying to take this one over)

If you don't like the competition, just don't post in the thread. No one cares that you don't like the idea so keep it to yourself. This goes out to everyone bashing fourth's idea and/or acting like idiots in this thread. ffs guys....

I myself would give it a try if i wasn't so damn worthless at anything involving the use of Photoshop :(

Now that I read back...I do have to agree with Saribous, there has been alot of bashing, and this compo is really quite good. There is no reason to hate it, if you dont know how to do it then just leave this one out, there will always be a next time. I just wish I was good at making web 2.0 stuff like fourthgen
