Ever since I wiped my hard drive after my Windows went bonkers and wouldn't boot up (not sure if anybody remembers that), I've been having these really strange problems with the transparency of things.

It's all random when it happens, but my brushes and sprites will start flickering between being transparent and solid, as seen in these pictures:

Sometimes its transparency will be changed when I shoot the object, and sometimes it just changes when I move to a certain location.

At first I thought it was a problem with the transparency DLL's that I had overwritten with the new ones that Steam uses, but I reinstalled Half-Life, installed the 1.1.1.0 update, and it was still happening.

I just played Counter-Strike for the first time since I wiped my hard drive (using the Steam version of course), and it was doing it on that too, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with just the old version of Half-Life.

Help?

By the way, I'm not sure if this belongs in Half-Life Engine Discussion or General Discussion, because for all I know, it might not be a problem that's only related to Half-Life...

Are these problems that occured only the 1st time you played CS in the new system? I mean, have you started playing CS, exited-out, rebooted, then tried again? I know that some games use the first run as a sort of calibration... perhaps CS is that way.

I don't know, I only just played CS today, but I've played HL in both Steam and non-Steam versions several times before (and restarted my computer many times in between those sessions), and it's still doing it for them. I have no reason to believe that it would be any different for CS.

Hmm.... I'm not sure then... I guess the only thing I can suggest is running the map in DX level 8. :

It's a bug in the new nvidia drivers, downgrade to an older version.

I have the latest version and don't get it.

try switching render modes in the options menu.

Hmmm... That's an idea, I'll try doing that, but Direct3D doesn't show decals for some reason.

ChickenFist:

If I wanted to do that, where would I get an older version? You can't get them from the nVidia site, can you?

Uninstall the update, you might want to install the last update before the lastest to avoid graphics downgrading too much.

Did you try validate under properties in steam for the mod your playing? Sometimes when I'm playing DoD, the spawn machineguns do that, but it's not to often.

Btw, what is the mod/map from that first screenie?...It looks pretty cool!
