Im not really a noob on account of I have'nt even loaded my beginner map yet(Andy's Tutorial). Thus, i havent had the chance to be a noob.
Anyway, my map has a lot of problems, probabally the wrong folder, but right now im focousing on getting my wads(the beginning wads like xeno.wad, decals.wad, liquid.wad, ect.).

The problem is that there are no wads in the hlvalve folder. I've looked all through the valve hammer folder(yes i have Hammer if that helps)but all i find is the pldecal.wad, witch the help told me not to use.
Got any advice?

(ps:Andy. nice tutorial, best i've found.)
Thanks, but it really isn't mine... It belongs to Valve, I just borrowed the ideas
(pps:Yes...I know i can't type '~' )

More importantly, are you using straight HL or Steam? If it's regular HL you must have really messed things up. Uninstall, delete the Sierra folder, reinstall. If you're using Steam I can't help, never touched it. Search the forums and you will see many problems re: Steam

If you're using Steam, get GCFScape. You can then access the mega-WADs where it stores everything and extract them. Ask if you're not sure what to do with 'Scape.

If you've downloaded it:

1. Run it
2. File -> Open
3. Find your Steam directory, then go to SteamApps
4. Double-click "half-life.gcf"
5. In the folder pane on the left, click "valve"
6. Look in the right hand pane. Locate "halflife.wad" and right click on it, then choose Extract.

7. Repeat #6 as necessary with different files.

Yeah, I have retail blue-shift and the first place I found them all was in the Half Life Dedicated Server folders (I had dl'd that before I started mapping). If you can't find all the WADs you want try looking through there.

Gdi, thats not workin.
is there a place where i can just download the wads stright from the site and into my folder?

Nope. If you can't (be a.) use a simple tool like GCFScape then you're not going to be a particularly successful mapper.

Problem Sloved!!

I guess i should say thanks KoDaS.
You made me realise that my folders had no rhyme nor reason to them.So I did the most ilogical thing I could think of, I looked in my blue shift folder :D !!

So thanks evry1, and rember all who read this seeking for wads....Theyer in a place youd never look(maby not even on your computer).

The wads alone are over 30 Mb zipped... might as well download the dedicated server and get the sprites and other stuff.

oh by the way i wasent haveing a problem with GCFScape.
My sis just got WinAce and got rid of WinZip and i was just plain lost.

But then again if I can't use WinAce then i probabally still wont be a good mapper :)
