Woo yay, first HL2DM Map!

The layout is complete and properly textured w/ lights but this is the first area which I've detailed up with props.

Btw the map is based around an abandoned train station which was shut down due to a accident.

Feedback please.

Wow, pretty breath-taking, very good work to you, sir. The lighting is superb - however, I'm not sure it's suited for HL2DM. Dark maps in fast-paced multiplayer are usually not a good idea. If I were you, I'd consider making it HL2SP primarily, then releasing a HL2DM version. But it's up to you.

In any case, good work. Could we have a scan of the layout, perhaps? :)

looks like my first map for hl, it too was a substation.

It needs banisters and those gate props from the station in HL2. Maybe even from breen screens or whatever.

You showed me this yesterday and you know my feedback but I forgot to say I don't like the horse.

And now that I'm more awake the textures don't seem new after all :D

I like the clean brushwork, and the train looks fabulous, though, I feel it may be too much of the same color. Unless, of course, that's what you were aiming for; there could be a bit more variation in the stone color. It just seems to me that the subway stations I've seen are a bit more bright-industrial... but that's just me :D .

Bright spotlights (like the ones used by the Combine) could help make color variations and contrast without having to retexture everything.

Tbh, I had in my frame of mind the station from the Matrix :P

Anyway, here is a more trashy platform.

Looks better imo.

Some details on the walls and ceiling could do. Pipes, generic metallic stuff and so on.

Very nice map. Lighting in source effects 5/10ths of the overall look in my book, and I say you nailed the lighting. Texture choice is wise as well (even though source materials are SOO overused.) I would get rid of the statue, as it does not really make sense in the scene. (But thats just me, if you like it keep it, it wont effect the quality of the map)

Maybe add some power boxes and move ropes around along with generators, and maintenance rooms. Maybe even some steam coming from the pipes, or a flickering light in the corner with sparks coming out.

On a side note not related to the map:

If your computer can handle it I suggest turning anti-aliasing up to at least 2x. Its so blurred, it looks like someone used the sharpen tool in photoshop like 50 times!

And if you can use anti-aliasing, make to turn up anisotropic filtering as well. :)

Ah so that's why it looks so different...Lower graphics o_0

Anyway if you're not doing it on purpose then impulse 200.

Well, I have AA on x4 =/

Anyway, I got my new card today, a X1900GT as opposed to my crappy AGP 9600XT.

So expect some more purdy shots soon :P

Oh, and btw, I know I have to add power-up boxes and such. I'll add them when everything else is finished.

I'm going to add pipes, smoke effects, flashing lights and such later aswell.

As for the layout, it's a bit meh =/

I'll post that later

I've changed the lighting and added some better details. Does it look any better?

Well when I played the older version I thought that room was pretty detailed but the other rooms were pretty boring...Needs more dirtying and random props!!!

the map really needed some bright lights, darkness is good and all, but not througout the entire map

What monitor you got? I'm not even on full brightness or gamma in-game and it looks fine...

Plus there's the fact that I altered the levels of the final images...

+Very good brushwork, propwork and ambience throughout the whole map.
-Very basic layout (a ring) and some confusing parts (two similar doors where one opens and the other doesn't, difficulty moving in the subway area etc.)

If you could make gameflow a bit more clear and add some variation in the Z-axis, the map could be truly great.

Sometimes I think some twhl members have a touch of the jealous bug....(just kiddin XD) (or maybe not, DOUBLE XD)

Its a fantastic map. Awsome brushwork, good material choice, and it was not that bad as far as brightness goes.

Problems:

The displacements where the train is crashed were awsome, but one area the displacement does not match up with the wall, and the void is visible.

Ladder dismount areas need to be higher. The ladder is difficult to get off.

Maybe add some more faces to the cylinder tunnel, and put some prop wreckage at the end of the tunnel to break up the monotany of the displacement.

Overall its a very well done excellent map. Loved the lighting effects, sparks, and I really loved the subway area. I really felt I was in a subway. Perfect on all the details. I wont rate your map until you fix the problems so I can give it a 5 star :)

Shame cause on Interlopers he was like "No No, not touching map, finished, never touch againz."

;)

It is a nice small map with a grainy detail to it...I assume you PS'd the grainyness? Now if you could apply that detail in a map 3 times as big then you succeeded.
