daubster looses for linking to a my.php page.

I just tried your resolution, ZL... too big for my teeny monitor.

I change my desktop wallpaper once a week. I get sick of looking at the same thing for too long.

Yeah it's funny. My old laptop was regular aspect ratio and I liked it. When I was shopping for a new one, I wanted the same-sized screen, but only the wide ones came with decent video cards.

Now that I've grown accustomed to the wider screen, it's really hard for me to look at anything not so :P

I love widescreen. :D My desktop had a normal 4:3 ratio, but I much rather prefer the 16:10 ratio on this laptop. The only slight issue I've had is older games and their lack of support for 16:9, let alone 16:10.

They look really nice. I should post my background here so you can all see the fragmented mess my video card left when it got sizzled.

what happens if you have a widescreen with some games? I was looking at upgrading to one from my 4:3, but worried - what actually happens to the games - streched, smaller? I just love the idea of watching DVDs on a widescreen - I also use a TV card rather than another TV, due to lack of space....

....oh, and ill post my desktop later, to stick vaguely on topic! ;)

Cheers!

i'm thinking of a widescreen lcd for my workhorse (this compy) when i upgrade and this crt for my gaming one, because
1. crts are better for gaming
2. i'm not getting 2 LCD monitors (i r cheap)
3. widescreen for daily use - dvds, apps, etc - i'll see if i can get hammer running on the widescreen and network it over to the other comp for testing....or something
4. some games have difficulty with widescreen
5. crts are more trustworthy at LANs, yes they are heavy shit, but you can drop it and it is still fine :D and i heard lcds running games constantly start to overheat considerably.

anyway, long story short, i want to know what happens with older games on widescreen. does it stretch, or have vertical black strips? is there a way to temporarily put the ratio to 4:3 to play older games?

Posted 17 years ago2006-08-26 08:48:47 UTC Post #194613
yeah, that's what I want to know. If you can temp. revert to 4:3, then I would definately invest - but if it screws up my gaming in general... its a big NO NO!!!

On a further note, does anything know of an English company that allows you to return monitors if they aren't what you want?

PCWorld? Comet?

...this should really go in a new thread, so sorry!

Here is mine. It used to be a fractal background too (the one made by Zombieloff), but I am fickle. I change background after every meal.

I am going through HL1 for the third time right now, that's why I have this screenshot.

Ditching my pretty fractal for a shitty 7 year old screenshot will you? I'm HURT, mister.
Posted 17 years ago2006-08-26 10:33:03 UTC Post #194626
I ain't ditching it. I only keep ten images in my wallpaper directory, and the fractal one is among them. I rotate the images every now and then, and I don't replace them very often. Not many images make it to the top ten list.

Here is the complete list:
black mesa.bmp
css militia.bmp
css nightfever.bmp
fractals.bmp
half-life.bmp
hl2 episode1.bmp
hl2 train.bmp
lost coast.bmp
serene.bmp
tf2 characters.bmp

P.S. I am still up to speed with my DOS commands.
Nothing is as fast as a "dir /l /b > list.txt". ;)

hah.... how pathetic! Nothing beats opening Notepad, then repeatedely switching between explorer and notepad copying down the names individually and slowly. Pah!!! :D

Nice to see that cmd commands don't go a miss in every situation... they still do have some uses!!!

I use Foobar2000 too. It's so much smaller. Winamp has become a bloatware.

If anyone else wants it, I made a full and widescreen version of it. They're low rez but it's the best I could do. Here's the link.

EDIT OH SHIT! I FUCKED UP BIG TIME! I need help. I moved all my files on my desktop into the recycling bin to clear it up for the big, and after using the restore all button, I lost several important files and folders. How can I get them back?!
