Do you think it's right to create a map based on the World Trade Center? I can imagine that it might offend some surviving family members, if such setting is turned into a game, especially with virtual terrorists running around inside the building again.

Oh I saw this old CS 1.6 map based off the Trade Center and it went like this:

Ct's start on the roof and the T's start in a plane and the outcome is that the plane just crashes into the building and the Ct's win...

Don't worry about what people say...I'll map what I want and when I want...So I believe it's acceptable. Just don't have any bodies fall from the windows :D

I'm fine with it, i say to those people, GET FUCKING OVER IT.

People die every fuckin day, so they all would have a right to complain about people dying in games. If we as a scociety are getting this edgy then i think it is truthfully twisted in a abnormal way.

The map looks brilliant no to mention true to the original building.

As eerie as it might be to run around inside the towers I don't think it would be considered offensive so long as everything (especially the objectives) are kept tasteful.

There are hundreds of WWII games (and any other war) out there, you don't see family members of dead soldiers getting hurt, right? Sure, this tragedy was a bit more recent, but it shouldn't be a problem. It's not like it propagates terrorism.

Seriously, wasn't it 5 years ago?
People shouldn't stick to the past so much.
The past is done and can't be changed
Ofc you can think back, to painfull times you might have suffered, but sticking to that is pointless, it only brings you sadness.
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-30 14:03:08 UTC Post #201330
i think that it counts as a tribute, especially since by the quality of the map, it is clear that a lot of effort has gone into making it. Perhaps as simply an architectural map (like falling water) it would'nt even stir up a fuss, but i can see the problem of making it for CS..

Personally, i think it's acceptable

The map actually runs pretty well.

I had fun with the bots in it last night.

Sticking to the past will make the progress go slower and why even care if someone will revenge on terrorist on a nostelagia based map?

Just say its in loving memory. people eat that crap up.

I know its wrong to bomb it, but i've played whitehouse maps, airliner maps, etc. Its wrong to bomb anything...

...those poor crates in de_dust...

just do it. :cyclops:

I downloaded it from the abominable FileFront (from the link provided in this thread).

It does have a slight lag, but surprisingly little considering the scale of the map.

The mapper really optimized this map well.

I saw this map a while ago. Fucking gorgous map.

I say screw those who are offended by things like this. My arguement is the ame as Zombie's.

It looks beautiful.

I'd like it more if it was a 'looks' map, and not for CSS.

And habboi: That is so fucked up :/

Man, just played it. He really did a good job here. I mat_wireframed it up to see how he took care of rendering for performance. Looks great. He must of gone to town with hint brushes because everything "de-renders" when out of sight perfectly.

Didnt play with bots though. Just a quick peek around.

I didnt like the 2 massive invisible walls in the front/back.
Also, his scrolling water texture was not wrapped, and looked worse than hl1.

Still, if it were submitted here I would give it 5 stars! XD

well, the server that my friend hosted wasn't very stable.

but the map is quite fun. a bit open and AWP camping prone at alot of parts, and the glass over the CT spawn is bullet proof. but other then that it plays really well.

good performance numbers too.
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-31 03:39:50 UTC Post #201436
The bulletproof glass is probably necessary to prevent spawn-kills.

i don't see why its bad, it not saying anything bad about people in the towers or the incident itself! its just that location

Dude the original twintowers map was an awp map before 9/11 or anything. It consisted of 2 empty floors with windows facing the opposite building, and the roofs. It was actually a decently fun and simple map for a few rounds.

Edit: Oh and I forgot to say it was for CS 1.5 lol

@pepper : :lol:

I have downloaded this map and had a run around. I was never given the chance to visit the WTC but my fiancee has and she looked up while I was running around the courtyard at the back and she said "I've been there! What you playing!?"

Its good that its accurate.

Ahem...sorry.
Did you tell her that it was the World Trade Center? If so how did she respond?
I told her it was the WTC yes. She kind of gave me a funny look before saying "Are they aloud to make stuff like that? What sort of game is it?"

I didn't have the heart to tell her the truth because she loves New York so damn much and she was in awe at being able to (sort of) wonder around the grounds again.

I just said. "Some body has made it as a Half-Life 2 level but there's no fighting or anything." :nervous:

She didn't wonder why you were running around in the tower with a rifle (when there's no combat)?

Opened it in G-Mod.

Then again that did stress the question. "Why is there a dinosaur in the lobby?"

You sure, have the patriotic diseas, please jump of a birdge. Because, 9/11 was rather funny, i mean how many times does a aircraft drive itself into a buildings? Hills and seas are all done and all, heck they even manage to wreck runways, but they hardly hit buildings.

Planes don't drive, they fly, and not by itself.
