Now you sound like a Nazi.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-11 16:37:36 UTC Post #202498
not quite, the Nazi's found there own race, and not a individual person above anyone else. And, they had the unresisteble urge to destroy... well, about anything.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-11 16:53:52 UTC Post #202499
Exactly, who cares if it's not xmas? You have to be an angry little kid to care about such a trivial little thing... I'll start on my holiday AV now, the santa hat on the midget was put there this summer so it's not my holiday AV... :D
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-11 17:05:38 UTC Post #202500

Stop generalising.
and not a individual person above anyone else
The fascist ideology kind of endorses one strong leader that will lead the nation to greatness. Like, you know, Der Fuerher.

ZL i said skandinavia because teh vikings came from skandinavia, and they partly represented these traits.

Somehow i have a feeling im really mixing something up :
i apologise for any offenses taken

Obviously you have never been in The Netherlands, were more or less a combination of the friesen, the franken, the germans, the french, the english, and we have a whole bunch of eastern looking people here.

Probably so ZL, i'm more into the political spectrum of the last century, facinating to say the least.

EDIT, i admit, i dont find the current israeli's a bit better then the Nazi's, the things that they are doing to the palestinians looks very much like concentration camps, only a size bigger.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-11 19:01:53 UTC Post #202507
i have actually never been to netherlands. I'm speaking straight out of my ass and 4th grade studies ^^ my apologies.
I was however also referring to a time period before so many cultures mingled in todays nations

Actualy, we were pretty much like that since the first colonies.

Well, I have been to Netherlands. At least for some minutes, since there was a part of the country between Brussels and Aachen (Germany) :)

Anyway, Christmas starts December the 25th and ends on January the 6th, so it is a bit early for the avs. I don't like changing my avatar (I've only had 4 since July 2004) and this time won't be the exception :(

I think its a nice idea. I also think its ok to be a little early. Everyone loves the christmas feel, why not bring it a little early?

Im trying to think of something different becides putting a christmas hat on my avatar. If all else fails, cant beat the basic hat :)
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-11 23:03:53 UTC Post #202513
Opening an image for editing and re-uploading a modifed version is called "changing it" in my dictionary. I understand the the base image is the same, duh...
Since my av is red and white, you can just imagine it's a zoom in of a Santa Claus hat: :P

Oh yes, Kasperg. That hat and your avatar looks exactly the same
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-12 00:57:38 UTC Post #202517
It does if you use your imagination! Just focus on the square I have highlighted in the hat and quickly look back at the avatar. Repeat this process a few times and it should work.
(don't get your hopes up, I'll let you know when)
I eagerly await that moment! But don't be too disappointed if who I want to be is not exactly who you want me to be ;)

Arrrghhhhh.... this is all really confusing me. I identify peeps by their avs... now I don't have a clue who's who!!!!

Well, i got kinda the biggest classic weapon of mass destruction, the Russian Tzar bomb, transported too the general target area in a Tupolev TU-95V 'Bear'. Here is a lovely picture hanging underneath it.

All you can think of is a stupid beard and hat.. AGAIN WITH THE FUCKING HAT?!?!
We thought on so much more... just look at the presents, the FUCKING PRESENTS! :P

Ok, I agree this is quite monotnos. Few santa hats is ok but when nearly everybody changes to them it's too much. I can't think of anything else because I don't know anything else on christmas but what do you have to suggest.

Hey why should we only make special christmas avatars... why not hollween and all the other christian holidays.

Saribous is right...everybody knows that.I think it would be better to only make special avatars for a holiday/day which most of the countries have.

Like, New year, April fools day, Valentines day
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-12 14:44:51 UTC Post #202553
An avatar for just one day? It wouldn't really make sense...

Not everybody is Christian, yet nobody complains about the vacation days derived from their celebrations, hehe ;)

do we have any jews or muslims on the forums?
either way ive decided to change my avatar. Even if it is a joyous holiday we musnt forget everyone who is less fortunate than we are. Think or the darfurians for example

this picture is nothing compared to whats really going on.

Saribous, I'm no christian, yet I see nothing wrong or offensive in changing avatars on christian holidays. I just do it for fun and to make this place a bit more intresting.

Arcan, I see some cruel sarcasim in what you said, like laughing at all the poeple who say those things. Arcan that avatar isn't funny. It's certainly not funny to see a dying child, and will never count as a joke.

Because most of the people here are christians or from christian countries. By that I mean europe, US...ect. Hardy anybody in here comes form other countries. And if somebody wants to change his avatar in his religion's holiday, so be it but not all of the site has to change because of one or two men.

i am not trying to be funny. Im 100% serious. I myself am in a human rights group. Admit it yourself, you havnt thought about them at all. I just want you to not forget about them, and perhaps do something, perchance donate or do something else to hepl the less fortunate.
The genocide in Darfur is real, and god is my witness that i do not mean it as a joke

Whys it gotta be a Christian holiday?
The name of the holiday is CHRISTmas for crying out loud. Its the birthday of Jesus Christ. Muslims and Jews and other religions don't celebrate it because they aren't Christian, but its still recognized because Christianity is such a big religion.
Still fun to celebrate, though. No?
Hey why should we only make special christmas avatars... why not hollween and all the other christian holidays.
We used to do Halloween avatars but we didn't last October and I don't think we did the year before, either. Not surprising. Nobody really cares about Halloween anymore.

Sorry arcan. Usally when I see people place such pictures they do it because they think it's funny.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-12 18:52:10 UTC Post #202575
its cool. From the context of some discussions (involving famous terrorist attacks) i can understand where you could get the notion that someone might think its funny.
I however have no reason to be amused by it (lived 12 years in Africa + 2 adopted siblings). I suppose i phrased my point a little oddly aswell.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-12 19:12:26 UTC Post #202579
WTF. How dare you use a picture of that context to represent yourself. I am a proud sponser of one of those kids, and find your avatar really insulting.

Go back to your allyway. You are no longer a friend. :|

About Christmas, and people who dont celebrate due to religious reasons:

Thats ok :) Christmas is for everyone. For Christians its the day Jesus Christ was born, for others, its just the christmas spirit, coming together of family, and being kind. Do those things have to be intermingled with religion? I dont think it does. If it gets people to be kind to one another, then there is no harm if someone else who does not believe in Christ celebrates it also.

I personally would like to see a snowing .GIF under the TWHL logo, and a santa hat on the "T" in "TWHL".

Come on now people, get into the christmas spirit! Its not too early. You cant really make a thanksgiving avatar. Also, most people here dont celebrate thanksgiving.

Im going to go right now and create a christmas avatar. I dont care if its not "unique". Ill save all the "unique ideas" for my maps, thank you very much :)

HOHOHO MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hey, maybe Ill model a christmas tree, and release it to the TWHL community, just to get into the christmas spirit. (low poly for HL1, and high for source)
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-12 21:46:21 UTC Post #202588
changed it, but you still shouldnt forget about them over your petty diefferences. im not representing myself with my former avvy. It serves to remind you.
A sponser? Well im brother to a dead child from the same country.
Don't forget that whilst you might be a sponser, other people who would do something dont because they forget.

Also why do i get this sort of reaction for raising awareness whilst others laugh about 9/11?

I can see the message your trying to send Arcan, but a internet website avatar is hardly to place to be promoting it. Comedy is usually assumed on any avatar that isnt self-explanitory. Its awsome you want to help them out, but maybe make a thread about it. Also, the picture's content was a little strong too for a internet avatar.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-12 23:09:13 UTC Post #202595
agreed, though i was aiming for a sort of "slap in the face" thing, something people dont forget very fast.

I thought about starting a thread several times over the past months but never got around to it, or didnt think people would be intrested.

Ill just leave my current avvy up till after chrismas.

well anyways, if anyone wants to know something
www.savedarfur.org

though there are lots things or situations you could do or help out with if you're intrested.

on a side note, noones given me any bright ideas for chrismas cards. As you might have noticed im not the most creative of people.

Christmas is a time that all religions should be getting together. Who cares about the bloody name, it still stands as a period of time where we wrap up the year and celebrate togetherness. All the fags who say "BOOHOO IT'S GOT CHRIST IN THE NAME" can get screwed, seriously.

As far as I'm concerned, there shouldn't be a particular time to be good to your peers or religions getting together. It should be that way all year long, not just when the Christmas lights are on.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-13 08:59:52 UTC Post #202611
Well unfortunately, the world doesn't work that way 24/7 because it's full of dumbasses. The Christmas period at least gives the human race some hope of being normal for once.

Christmas is a time to be generous to those people you love, showing appreciation for everything they've done for you during the year.

Sure, it'd be great to be like this ALL year, but no one has THAT much money dammit.
