I remember I was driving 35 in a 30, and I got a ticket from a cop for 300 DOLLARS! GAWL! :( He must of been bored or something, or just hated TWHL mappers :

Anyway, those guys are college security. Not too much training, or background check is required for that. plus there is no way to tell if a police man has any racial hatred until he actually does something.

Every profession has their share of "dirty cops" as it were. Judges, lawyers, etc. Its something we all have to deal with and realize that justice does take care of them eventually :)

What did the kid do? What can you do in a Libary that cause law enforcement. That makes my descision. I mean, if he was being a REAL douche to the cops before hand, I could see them getting tired and he got what he deserved. There are a lot of stupid people who could use a tazer. Do I agree with tazering him 5 time when he is on the ground, once or twice yea, but just drag him off then.

It is really hard to judge this by just the video. It makes it look like the cops are really bad, and the kid is a victem. I mean the cops could have had incidents with this person before, they could have just gotten really tired of him. But it could also show a victem getting owned by the cops.

So really I don't think anyone should judge unless they know the crime, and the people behind it. Anyone?

Saribous:

They use violence against criminals to stop violence against innocents.

How do you think a police man would stop a criminal with a gun? Ask him nicely?
Did he have a gun? No.

Was he violent against innocents? No.

Your point?

so. wrong.

No ID in a computer lab is suspicious.

Hell no one at my school has any ID. Inlcuding me, then again, my school is too small for campus cops.

I hope those cops get banned from life. hard.

Xyos, your appauling lack of understanding of civilised criminal justice systems appauls me. A police state is where the police decide if somebody is a criminal. It's generally considered a bad thing. You Yanks supposedly hold dear all that stuff about fair trials... and you cast it aside so lightly? Pathetic.

Exactly. If we forgot our ID Card we were told to just go sign for a temporary pass in the office - the last thing they do is call the police!

I mean come on. A student arguing about an ID Card is hardly with al-Qaeda...

I would have worn a V For Vendetta mask, personally.

At my school we don't even have ID's, in fact here ID's in school's is unheard of. At a University, yes.

I've had worse though - 2 nights ago I had a 12 gauge shotgun aimed at my head for trying to leave my brother's car after we both got busted in a police checkpoint for not having his car license updated. :tired:

Your putting words in my mouth Seventh. Also, you need to keep the personal remarks to yourself, and discuss this normally.

Is it so hard to understand what I meant? Police dont always know someone has a weapon. Each situation has to be treated with the utmost care. The worst must be assumed in order to be prepared. Otherwise police would be killed left and right....

Do you honestly think they will only take him down if he is carrying a weapon? It all has to be judged depending on the situation.

I like Keith Olbermann. He's so... gloomy and articulate.

Xyos: Mistakes can be made (although we should do everything in our power to prevent them, seeing as how those mistakes probably cause more crime than they intended to stop), but intended malpractice in their job can simply not be tolerated. Especially not in the field of excess of force.

I like the way he doesn't put up with Faux News' Bill O' Reilly and his ridiculous points of view.

I do agree with that ZL. A full investigation should be done for this incident, background checks, interviews with friends, family, people to see if the officers had any history of intolerence, as well as everything else done. If in fact they are guilty then they should get the maximum penalty the law requires. Something so serious and complicated as this needs to be looked at carefully, and is difficult to judge from basically audio only.

I think this subject has been milked as far as it can be. Im thinking its time for another topic of discussion :)

I think they should discontinue the use of Taser-based deterrents, so we don't have opportunists like this screaming torture/civil rights violations when they blatantly disobey law enforcement.

Billy clubs are far more effective, and leave neat colorful marks, fractured bones and teeth, and much more pain--much more humane, to be sure.

The sad thing is that I went to school there, and I used to study at that library all the time.

This whole thing happened because of the Iraq war. He wouldn't have felt to be singled-out if we weren't killing Iraquis, and he would have shown his ID willingly.

They stepped way over the line, you all know that. Whether or not it could have been handled better isn't relevant because what's done is done, and now that guy's life is probaby changed forever, or at least his perspective on law enforcement. This is why people are scared of cops, because there are so many bad cops out there who feel that they are better than everyone else. Its horrible.

So you're saying that being bludgeoned with a stick is worse than hundreds of volts of electricity surging through your body, possibly causing permanent organ and brain damage?

PS: Its good to see Jhazel back and posting the things he does again :P

More humane, less lethal... it's why they use them.

Easy, launch a tazer out of a bazooka and nail someone in the face :D

Thank you Jahzel so much for the video, didn't know what he did. I can now make a judgement (like it matters).

First, the cops shouldn't have been racist (if they were, I really never heard any reason Why they asked for his ID), and the student should have showed him them (shouldn't hassel with cops, even if they don't deserve respect, it will make your life easier)

Second, if he started to be disrespectfull, and said he won't leave, and they tried to walk him out and he went limp, Tazer him once (only if he is being a REAL disturbance, and etc.) then carry him out, there was no freaking need for more than one shock.

When a dumb student and even dumber "cops" combine, the outcome is never good. And yes the kid was a little stupid, if he didn't show them his ID, and started making being limp if they were taking him away, I think most people would have started to move after the first shock.

Good points.

Of course it's always better to remain calm and be respectful towards officers, as even the most slight accidental touch could result in you been taken down for assaulting an officer.

I think he was trying to prove some political point through civil disobedience, only he fail'd horribly at it.
Posted 17 years ago2006-12-01 18:13:25 UTC Post #204754
Me? Not on purpose. Although I do have a rather bleak look out on other people, mostly because people in my town are really retarted, especially in the schools, even teachers. Everyone just needs to calm down.

He's obviously a smartass (one thing the video does prove with his remarks like "YOU AER ABUSING POWARS" and "I SAID I'D LEAVE" [yeah, after he started a bunch of shit]) and thinks he can get away with mouthing off to an officer of the law and just walk away. Stupid move. If he would have complied in the first place there wouldn't have been a problem. It's his own stupid fault. Yes, tazering him multiple times was probably excessive, but it worked. He finally realized after getting shocked with the damn thing a few times that he wasn't going to get out of the situation until he complied, which he does at the end, and they stop tazering him.

The video is gone, but that sounds like bullshit to me. Cops/campus patrol officers should barely even be carrying tazers.
