A scientific model however, is something wich CAN be proven or confirmed, for example, "Outside the universe there are nothing but bananas", it can't be proven or confirmed and therefore it's not a scientific-model.
Naturally. So evolution, big bang, the age of Earth (and more) are all unscientific?
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-11 15:04:52 UTC Post #209321
No, I believe they are all proveable.
Big bang is a theory, because it does not go against anything confirmed, matter can be created out of nothing.

I can't just guess the age of earth, that would be unscientific.
But I could try to calculate it, wich would be scientific.

Evolution is a theory, and idea, does not need to be proveable.
A theory doesn't need to be proveable to be a theory
There is nothing to it wich goes against anything else we know (I'm not great at biology but at least I think so)

Since i started the thread and all, here are my views.

I do think we were once visited. If anyone has seen stargate you know what im talking about.

Something happened to spark interest into space. With the egyptians, the myans... Whoever built stonehenge.

How are they so perfect with such primitave technology? And stonehenge... the quarry those rocks were brought from is hundreds of miles away. How the hell did they get the rocks 1- to the location, and 2- stacked up like that??
Im not saying that aliens built either the pyramids or stonehenge, but maybe they did pose as gods, or even give them tips or blueprints (metaphorically speaking) to build such creations..

Also, if these aliens and all that is a big coverup and they are doing everything in secret, then they would kill us for writing what we are writing here, right? I mean, we know their secret!
Bad arguement there. That's just like saying "if God exists then he will strike me down where I stand. I am still her,e thus God doesn't exist".
I'm completely against the idea, but I also hate that arguement.
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-11 18:04:15 UTC Post #209336
That argument is poor. More like:

Area 51 probably has stuff and we probably know, but we will never know for sure. They have the benefit of the doubt which is essential in some cases.

My vote stays, Aliens are around.

Jazhel, il reply on that later on.

I doubt Area 51 (Nellis Airforce Range) has any little green men running round, lol. The facility is a highly classified black-budget aircraft testing location. The B-2 Stealth bomber was developed and tested there, as well as the highly classified Aurora. There are in fact lots of bases in this region, such as S-4 and so on.

Phil Schneider, who I tend to believe, said that some of the Stealth bomber technology is of a highly advanced nature originating from "alien technology". I know for a fact that the Stealth bomber's radar invisibility was developed at Montauk Facility. Some say the aircarft even has full on optical invisibilty, which was developed in Project Rainbow as far back as the 50's.

Public domain technology is light years behind highly classified multi-billion dollar black budget technology which you'll never hear about. Billions go missing from the Pentagon each year on this stuff.
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-12 11:13:51 UTC Post #209422
It is not out of this world, but yes, nearly full optic invisibilty probably excists on some aircraft, just as the russians and americans tryed fitting planes with nuclear engines.

Jazh is right, i got a chart of the airbase and the surrounding area and most of it is restricted airspace(-red: fly into it and we shoot you down).
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-12 11:26:44 UTC Post #209424
When you have top minds plus billions of dollars each year, anything is possible.

Did you know that after WWII there was a classified program known as Operation Paperclip where many of the Nazi Scientists were brought over to America to work on US projects. V2 Rocket technology was brought over to the US.

There are many rumours about a Nazi base in the Antarctica region still in operation, hence it is restricted airspace. (Undisputed territory with restricted airspace? - It's also illegal under international law to have a military presence there). There was a lot of talk about the so-called 'Nazi flying saucers' which caused a great deal of concern at the time. Its the most likely explanation for the 'foo fighter's which were seen by US and allied aircraft pilots.

Its the most unlikely explenation jazh, lots of weather balloons there, and offcourse flying at 20.000 feet in piston powered engine craft at that altitude makes your mind see crazy things.

The nazi's indeed did build flying saucers, but i highly doubt that there is a secret operating base somewhere.

The likely reason why not to fly over antartica is because it makes the equipment go beserk on you.
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-12 11:40:22 UTC Post #209429
I didnt say I believed it, I just said that there is a rumour about it.

I doubt they'd be testing 'weather balloons' in massive dogfights, lol.

You are right about pilots experiencing visual hallucinations, however much of the foo fighter phenomenon was photographed, which makes it an unlikely explanation for it.

Lots of those things look like plane reflection in the lens of the camera, some are reflections from planes itself that are projected against the cockpit windows.

Remember that life can only be created in certain enviroments.
Water is needed (at least we think so) and should therefore not be too cold or too hot.

They say that the cells themself was created out of "dirty" water and sunshine.
If you put dirty water under the sun you will notice how the molecules starts to create "cell-lookalike shapes".
Just something that I've heard of...

Well, I got a alien terory myself; all this pictures u see of aliens got big head, their small, long arms etc... Well, thats accorate how humans are developing, we're getting bigger heads 'cause of our brain has to grow to take bigger capacity, and we use tools and stuff so we dont need our big muscles or size, and we maybe have to go to another planet to survive, and there we may mutate a bit more... And my terory is that in a other futuric version of our dimension, humans have already gone to a new planet and developed and stuff, so now their small green men and have developed a "time-and-space" machine and travels trought time and space and ends up in our dimension and take test on us prehistoric humans and stuff and let the military know 'bout it. Now, their letting the military some technology so we're dont have to develope it ourself so we can escape a catastrofal thing, like sun exploding, magnetic field dissapears. (Like what happened to mars for some millions of years ago, so now mars getting burned by radioactivity and global poisinous sandstorms) What u think? (PS: If u dont hear from me any more, u know what has happened... )

Quote to Highlander:
Some here doesnt understand people at IQ 137, so I was just simplefied the message... else it would be like 5 pages... And the dust storms on mars, I heard of them from here and there. Im a young scientist. Im visiting all kinds of scientific websites. The mars storms got high speed and carry dangerous particles and radiation killing every microorganisms or other living stuff that COULD survive there, so no way that life can come to mars yet. Many mars-bots has been killed that way. All what was found by one being killed by a mars storm, was its diamond parts. Do u want to go to mars now, huh?
(PS: HEY!! IM STILL ALIVE NOR KIDNAPPED!!! YAY!)
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-13 18:15:14 UTC Post #209527
As far as I know, Mars doesn't have any heavy elements on it's surface, and therefore there is no radioactivity.
The radiation you're talking about is the one coming from the sun because Mars doesn't have any great protection against that.
The storms are just dust particles flying around.

Also, as far as I know, no mars-expedition has gone wrong because of storms on the surface/radiation.
Or am I wrong?

I dont get that whole tectonc plates thing.. Why is it so necessary for the core to be active in order for life to form??

Like.. what do moving plates have to do with growing some ferns on the red planet? And as far as i know, its possible to actually create an atmosphere on mars.

I don't see how we can make claims like that if we have only ever seen life on Earth,
Of course we (and all Earth creatures) have evolved by depending on water, probablly because the Earth is 70-80% water :|

So we should not make assumptions about the universe based on what we see here. :)

Of course you're right about that.
It's just a theory.
But still, a life form could probably not live in too cold enviroments, or too hot enviroments.
Therefore there is something called a "life-zone" around every sun, if there is a planet orbiting inside this life-zone it's likley to have life.

The reason we think water is the root of life is because the sun was once much hotter than it is today, and there was water on Mars.
By then, Mars had life wich we have found in the form of fossils under the surface.
When the water freezed and Mars went all cool the life died.
However there still might be life on Mars far under the surface where there might be small underground water-channels

Yes they can madcow, they have found bacteria's in completely dark and extremely salty caves and lakes, places were we thaught life wasnt possible.

Kinda shows us how short minded and selfish the human race is.
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-14 09:31:31 UTC Post #209573
Oh yeah - forgot that.
Now when you brought it up I remember that they've even found life in boiling water, weird.

But there must be a limit, too cold or too hot.
I mean, a planet too close to the sun, or too far away should probably not be able to have any life, perhaps bacteria, but no big lifeforms

Posted 17 years ago2007-01-14 17:05:28 UTC Post #209607
So you don't think that it is possible for intelligent life to evolve from this bacteria that can live under harsh condistions? Not every form of life needs to be based on a humanesque structure and not every form of life needs to have the same limitation as the human body. There's not a definite line that specifies whether life can exist somewhere or not. If life on Earth evolved to suit Earth's conditions, then what's stopping other life on other planets? Water might not even be a factor, period. For al we know they might be a titanium-based life form or something.
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-14 17:45:31 UTC Post #209610
Worldcraft dude:
I'm not saying that you are wrong, this is just my opinion.
A bacteria is a bacteria, it's small and doesn't react on things like a bigger creature does.
For example, we have internal organs.
What I'm saying is that I find it quite unlikley that something big could survive in as harsh condition as something small.

And no, I'm not a bigologist so I'm just stating what I think seems reasonable.
Water might not even be a factor, period.
As said earlier in the thread, of course there could be lifeforms based on other elements.
But what the scientists has observed when "dirty water" and sun-light was combined was pretty convinsing.
What the combination seemed to create was some kind of a cell.
But perhaps other alien lifeforms aren't cell based?
Who knows?

Posted 17 years ago2007-01-14 18:23:18 UTC Post #209611
But just because dirty water and sunlight produced cells doesn't mean that is the only way a cell can be produced, not to mention different types of dirty water.
Like I said before, they would have evovled to live in that kind of climate. Yes, bacteria is just a simple form of life without a conciense or a sense of self awareness, but it is life. Bacteria and complex species are both, reguardless of physical differences, forms of life. With that in mind, if a bacterial cell can live in an inferno, why does it seem impossible for a complex being to live in the same conditions?
Earth might seem inhabitibal to some other species because of how far away we are from our sun, they might think, "Geez, that planet is 20 degrees?! There's no way life could exist on something that cold".
There doesn't neccessarily have to be a limit for conditions that life can exist in, though I can understand why you, or anyone else, would prefer to think so. Not everything needs a limit, numbers and time are evidence enough for that statement.
This is getting interesting :)

I really, really REALLY would love to write books - I kind of feel as though I should be in this circuit. You never know, one day I could be the new David Icke ( lol ).

I think it is likely that South Africa merges with the US, United States of Europe, Australia and New Zealand. These merged countries will eventually be one huge superstate.

We will always have an enemy and we will always be at war with the other superstates. There will be undisputed territory, just as Orwell described.

On another note, I find it highly unlikely that life evolved from some kind of 'cosmic accident'. I find it incredibly arrogant and self-centred to think like this. You have to realise that new lifeforms, new suns, new planets, new universes etc are constantly being born throughout the infinite reaches of space. It is not ridiculous to suggest that there are lifeforms out there with a much higher intelligence than us. As humans, we tend to think that we're the most advanced. We believe that no other lifeform could evolve higher than us. We believe that extraterrestrials do not have the capability to reach us because of the speed and distance, yet we know full well that such beings might not even have spacecrafts that work under this principle. We believe that by sending radio waves we may somehow get a signal back, yet we know full well that the radiowave may be an obsolete or completely non-existent communication method in other worlds.

I firmly believe that the networks of extraterrestrial civalisations beyond our planet are fully known about. I think this is being covered up simply because our controllers/leaders don?t want us to find out about the silent takeover which is still taking place. They want us to think that no other higher intelligence exists. They want us to think that the poor results obtained by SETI prove that nothing else exists. They don?t even want us finding out about our own abilities either. They don?t even want us finding out about how advanced we are, and what enormous capabilities we have built inside us. We have been given a self-destructive, slave mentality, which is completely the opposite of what we were supposed to be. I don?t think it?s the end of us. I think one day we will overcome this, but it wont is easy, and it certainly won?t happen quickly.

I didn't read all posts above me here, I stopped to comment madcow's post about how life can't exist in too hot/too cold, lack of water etc. etc.

That's just how it works here, the lifeforms on earth need water. But lets say that on a planet far, far away there was life. And the planet they lived on was 50% liguid magma insted of water, it is possible that those lifeforms evolved around magma and then needs it just like we need water?

There's a crapload of nutrients in magma. Only thing is its thousands of degrees hotter than most species can stand. (all on earth i beleive)

I just got the SETI @ HOME program today (Recommened by my intro space sciences teacher) and it downloads and decodes signals from the giant antenna from Puerto Rico when your computer's screensaver is on. A few hundred terrabytes of information have already been decphiered by hundreds of people.
