In the source SDK-Valve hammer editor program, I can't see the dev/dev_water3 texture when applied to a brush . Nor can I see the nature/water_wasteland002a texture when applied to a brush, which is checkerboarded :nervous:. Anyway I can fix this? Thank you.

The reason is because its dev water.. Dev water does not show up in hammer, but it renders reflections actively when its in the game. Alot more "expensive" than regular water.. So, use any water that doesn't have dev in its name if you want to see it in hammer. I reccomend water_canals03 =D

But how come the nature/water_wasteland002a is checkerboarded?:|.

mmmm, you might have moved the texture to a folder that its not supposed to be in.. In which case, (this will basically render any custom textures useless, for the moment), go rename your materials folder (materials2..) and then it will let the GCF's textures come through.. If the GCF textures dont work, then theres something else wrong.. (Note you have to restart hammer and compile to let the GCF textures to come through)

Depending on your hardware and shader versions, the water in Hammer may not show up. It will show up in game (also, /dev water textures should work fine, they're just like the regular ones in /nature.) Try compiling your map to see what happens rather than judging it in-editor, especially if you're on DX7 or 8 HW.

I use DX9+, and GrimReafer, where is the materials folder you're taking about? :|. Nature/water_wasteland002a is the game's texture, not a custom texture.

mmmmm, nevermind about what I said.. If you dont know where the materials folder is located, theres a laaarge chance what I said wont be your problem.

Perhaps your GCF has become corrupt? Try deleting the local game content (Enter the Steam Games list, right-click on Half-Life 2, and go to "Delete Local Content"). That's the only other thing I can think of, based on what's already been said.

DONT delete local content!
verify the game by right click>properties, local files tab, 'verify integrity of game cache'.
