I want to learn to map for Half Life 2 as well as 1 but I found a load of the entites don't work and come up with error's in game. I asked my mate from school today about this and he said he had heard that even if you don't have ep1 and choose "Half Life 2" from the game list in the SDK hammer will have ep1 only entites.
This isn't helping me learn as 9/10 I have chosen something that won't work in HL2 and as Ive completed ep1 round my mates I don't want to buy ep1 as I think the money could be better spent else where.
Is there any way around this?

what lies. I doubt the entities were renewed as well. If anything was added it was models. Everything should work fine.

So why do I have say an NPC_Ministrider but no model (Well in hammer it has a model which says "ERROR", AI, Sounds or a "prop_coreball" which shows up as the same model.
The mini strider isn't seen untill ep1 when your in the citadel and you see that message thing which ends with what looks like one breaking the camera. From what I can tell the mini strider is defenity an ep1 entity.

Just use the entities that don't come up with errors in game. Those are the ones from HL2 and not the Episodes. It can't be easier than that. Besides the mini-striders, flares and "Zombine", there shouldn't be many entities incompatible with standard HL2.
