This is not for the weak of heart.
When Srry posted the first video in the shoutbox, I couldn't stop thinking about it. It wasn't so much that it was frightening(though it was pretty eerie), it was that it intrigued me so much. As far as I know there are 4 videos right now, and I can't get them out of my head. These things terrify me, truely, but I can't stop reverting back to them.
Oh, and for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, here:
Video 1
Video 2
Video 3
Video 4
There are a lot of possible explanations for this, read this thread for a pretty interesting discussion about the videos.
But here's what I think: Silent Hill Origins, though my basis is a little shaky. The initial trailor for SH Origins(seen here) featured a song, and some of the lyrics went "You can lose all you have to the town that takes all", which I associate with the text from video #4. Alone this isn't much of a bsis, I know, but apparently the music in the 4th video is form Silent Hill... so maybe? Then again its more than likely not, since there are so many things that can also be linked to these videos.
In any case it should be interesting to see what this thing really is about. Discuss...

I told Hunter about this late last night, and he said he got a headache from the videos (a kind of pressure behind his eyes), which many other people reported as well. I watched them this morning (I was actually too scared to last night, I'd only heard of them), and I got head pains too.

Anyone else experience this? I'm way too creeped out by them to watch them more, so I don't know if some effect me more than others.

Read the thread and you might find out. So far, I think they're about some group trying to alter people's minds for their own benefit. I'm not absolutely sure about that, though. It's just that there's this blog post supposedly by the guy that made them saying this. He also talks about people who are "gone now". God damn, this is disturbing.

Eh.

I'd watch the videos, but i like the feeling im in. I'd rather not be pussified for watching a video.

After reading the thread, i still got no information on what the video's showed. So could someone sum it up for me?

Just plain crazy shit in general. Eerie music, weird faces and such, the like.
Posted 17 years ago2007-02-21 23:52:05 UTC Post #213297
It's a bunch of images of creepy heads (which some people thought of as "detached" for some reason), interspersed with cryptic sounding messages. It's all in black and white, and made to look like a hijacked TV broadcast, although it's not. They all start with the same exact image, and may have slightly different sounds, but it's all the same style, and really scary.

If you've seen The Ring, it's basically like that, except this is real.

Watched with headphones on full volume in dark room.

DON'T DO THIS!

Those videos made me feel dizzy and sick and now I'm paranoid and have checked the lock on my front door 5 times.

Im not gonna watch it, but im gonna take a crack at what i think it is:

Remember the thread i started about the creepy countdown clock?:
http://twhl.co.za/forums.php?action=viewthread&str=eon8&type=1&pg=1&id=11894

I think its some phychological experiment used to see how people react, in this case, to certain sounds, pictures, and very limited information.

Same thing happened with eon8. No one knew what the hell the clock was counting down to, just that it was.

Stop freaking yourself out unless you life in Wyoming.

Except that this has so many more real leads, and it's much more interesting. The fact that there is indirect interaction between the guy who did them and the investigators is pretty strange, too. Not only that, but this seem to me to be much more sinister.

I read a little bit of that thread towards the end:

I think this affects different people in different ways and I don't like the way this has made me feel. I don't want to go near the windows anymore and I don't want to go to sleep. (3:30AM here BTW)

At some point on one of the vids it felt like my eyes were trying to crawl out of my head.

I have an overwhelming desire to hurt someone which isn't like me.

Watch with extreme caution.

Heh, just watched the videos, pretty tame really. Though i can see why people would be terrified of these, they play with your head.

The combination of unusual sounds (the music isn't structured as someone would normally expect) and even more unusual faces (they aren't life-like, and they don't move as you'd expect) plays on peoples fear of the unknown, quite a good illusion.

Easy to see through though if you dumb it down to what it really is: strange faces and eerie music similiar to most typical horror styles. I will admit the faces in the 3rd and 4th videos got to me though, when the music suddenly popped on (again, a typical horror style).

You know what would be the scariest thing of all? If this whole thing was never figured out. And if the creator of these videos is just trying to scare people, that would be the absolute best way of achieving it.

Luke: I think it's called social engineering. In the blog I mentioned, the person had talked about something similar.

Oh come on peeps, even I can tell this is all a load of rubbish.

Yur always telling me I'm a kook for believing stuff, but this just takes the biscuit!

All it is, is some guy experimenting with his new video editing software - that's all. The was no Wyoming Incident, there never will be a Wyoming Incident - it's all made up.

The only cool thing about Wyoming is the Devil's Tower
Posted 17 years ago2007-02-22 09:45:26 UTC Post #213344
It may all be made up, but the videos are real, and i swear on my eventual grave they had an effect on me.

I watched the first one, which srry linked to me a couple of times, because i thought it was quite funny, and that the music was cool, and would suit a horror map which me and Livewire are making, but after the third time i got a bit of a sore head. Like in between the eyes.
I kept watching it and the pain sort of numbed to a strange pressure behind my eyes. It was like the feeling you get when you've been crying for an extended period...

Then i watched the others and just felt worse and worse. Never watched the last one.

These videos have a very real effect on your head. Do not watch repetatively.

Yeah, the story behind these videos is a load of crap. That doesn't mean the videos don't have an actual effect on you, it's a combination of illusions, psychological tricks, and a real, physical impact on you.

As i said before, it's something away from the norm that plays with your head, makes you feel things that are and aren't there. The combination of the aural and visual oddities could be triggering mild headaches or strain to some peoples eyes, etc. etc.

There is an explanation for all of it.

I'm feeling nothing - except that I have a small feeling behind my eyes after the first movie ( I saw them all ) and I'm guessing that feeling was caused by other people saying that they felt a headache behind their eyes and therefore affected me, it's teh human mind
Oh come on peeps, even I can tell this is all a load of rubbish.
Lol, "even you".. :-D
I'm not saying that the videos are fake, I'm just proposing an answer to the headache thing

Edit:

There is an other movie...

Posted 17 years ago2007-02-22 13:11:02 UTC Post #213359
It didn't really have any effect on me. Might be because I'm a bit numb, I've seen a lot of strange things. Hell, my life kind of revolves around strange things. :P

Maybe that's why it didn't affect me. I totally understand why people would be affected by it, but.. Nothing here.

To me it just seemed like a sort of blend between The Ring and Silent Hill. He tried to make it look very minimalistic but it's obvious it was made in a program like Vegas.

I still don't like the way it made me feel. I couldn't fall asleep until I buried my head under the covers last night.

Maybe I'm more sensitive toward this sort of thing.

For some reason I find the image of a badly modelled (or mabye distorted) head / face deeply disturbing.

I agree with Hunter but I will add not to watch in the dark when your tired with headphones on. :D

For me, it's not the movie that's scary, it's how the movies came about, why the movies were made in the first place, and what they mean. looking into these things gives me the shivers.

Same. I guess that means I admit to being a pussy, too. :D

Oh, and I got really nauseous last night, along with having a slight pain in my eyes. Dunno if that had anything to do with the sounds in the movie, but it was a pretty strange occurrence. I feel fine, now.

It's part of an alternate reality game.

Scroll down to the summary.

EDIT: Well, I just watched all 4 videos in a row with the sound turned all the way up, and I actually did get a headache at one point, right behind the eyes. Creepy, indeed :D
Posted 17 years ago2007-02-23 16:12:05 UTC Post #213485
Haha that video no. 4 just cracked me up because I knew that from the above videos it would play some loud music and a random face would appear. But still I jumped :D

I'm not feeling too good today so I can't tell if the video made me worse but my eye sight is a little hazy most likely from the jump.

Kinda cool but I have these strange thoughts of the monitor blacking out and a face appears or I close my eyes and see the face :D

Although I didn't find it too disturbing but I have played a lot of the Silent Hill games so I'm slightly used to it.

I really like that line. Disturbing lines that make no sense tickles my fancy in ways you couldn't imagine. They make for good slogans.
By the way, this ARG was put together exceptionally well. I still have doubts as to whether its actually an ARG though, and not just some kind of experiment(or even something real, highly doubtful at this point though).

Posted 17 years ago2007-03-02 06:31:27 UTC Post #214584
The headache effect some people got from it was very real, however. At least if I am correct, if the idiots who made the videos stuck a 19Hz or so sine wave in the background, if someone were to listen to it with decent headphones or with a VERY loud surround setup, the frequency will cause the eyes to vibrate very slightly which can cause headaches, nausea, mild out-of-focus hallucinations and pressure behind the eyes. It wouldn't be hard to stick a frequency like this in there without people noticing, the fact that not everybody got a headache/felt wierd after watching it would probably be because not everybody listened to it with headphones, not neccessarily the placebo effect (though I'm sure that had a factor in it).

However it was still pretty obvious it was a fake, if they wanted to make it look like a real TV hijacking, they could've at least shown the programming before and after the hijacking, thrown in some interference and made the fonts a lil more blurry -_- Compare those videos to a real TV hijacking.

EDIT: You can try the 19Hz thing in Soundforge or whatever, generate a 19Hz sine wave about a minute long, put on some loud headphones with good bass response and see what happens. I tried it and almost immediately it felt like my whole body was vibrating, and no pleasantly, it was REALLY uncomfortable and made the back of my eyes ache. You must have headphones for this to work in order for the desired effect (eye vibration) to happen, as well as be of a sufficient volume. Be careful not to turn the volume up too high though, or you'll break your headphones and if not, your eardrums -_-

Posted 17 years ago2007-03-02 07:18:59 UTC Post #214589
They still didn't catch the guy who did the real hijacking xD He must've been using a pretty fucking expensive transmitter though, as 2 hours before he hijacked the channel playing Dr. Who (as seen in the above video), he managed to hijack a news channel that had a very powerful transmitter ontop of Sears Tower for half a minute before an engineer realized and compensated for it. You'd need a hefty transmitter (in them days) to achieve that effect, maybe it could've been somebody working at a rival station messing around? There's a Wikipedia page on the incident, it's quite interesting. It must've been creepy to watch it when it first happened though, can you imagine sitting alone really late at night watching TV in the dark and suddenly this guy with a Max Headroom mask pops up on the screen and starts saying a load of garbled shit? That would certainly creep me out.
m0p m0pIllogical.
