k heres the issue im having, ive built a cs:s map using mostly reflective surfaces and have just put in my cube maps (i have yet to make a light source). but since then when i play against bots on my map the keyboard commands i put in seem slugish, and for some reason all the reflective surfaces have purpleish pinkish, tints to them!! is this because i dont have any light sources yet?? The wierdist thing is that when i play by myself w/o any bots on the server its fine!! im gonna add my lights next but i would still like an explination! THE_SHRUB

Discuss your present projects, advertise new releases, or recruit for mod teams. No mapping questions here!
That's what it says right below the Maps and Mods forum link. Use the forums for what they're there for, people!

As for your question:
I've found that CS:S movement plays a little oddly compared to HL2. It's as if you're playing on a slightly laggy server and movement is sluggish/jumpy. Check your rates in the console:
  • rate 30000
  • cl_updaterate 101
  • cl_cmdrate 101
Sometimes, specularity can draw a lot of system resources. In the console, enter "mat_specular 1/0" a few times and see which mode you're sluggish in. If turning it on/off does nothing for the performance, then there's probably some performance-consuming error in your map, or your computer just sucks (lol). If specularity is causing it, check to see if it occurs on other computers. You can also try to use fewer materials that have reflections.

Also, keep in mind that bots are extremely costly in performance. My computer can only handle ~27 bots before dipping below 30 FPS.

It wasn't aimed specifically at you, rather all the wrong-forum-posters. :)

Any way, glad to be of service.

The main problem is that many newcomers don't know what the term 'mapping' means. It's not such a commonly used term around the world. 'Level editing' is a better term to use, then everybody would understand. :)

Another problem is that some just don't read or illiterate. :P

You shouldn't really ask this question.
for some reason all the reflective surfaces have purpleish pinkish, tints to them!!
Some updates wrecked the way cubemaps are written. I always used a combination of "buildcubemaps" + "mat_bumpmap 0/1" + reloading the map a few times to get it working. I have no idea why that happens. If you look at the console, it usually says something about not finding a whole bunch of reflection vmts.

About that purple tint thing. My brother had that recently when he put his resolution and detail up but I don't think that would be the case.... It may be your graphics card or it could be what Kasperg just said.
