I think I made up my mind, Im gonna upgrade myself from Windows to Linux! Im so tired of this Microsoft bullshit. But wich Linux version Im gonna switch to is yet undecided. Any suggestions?
I really hate Microsoft, yesterday when I was talking with Hunter on MSN, I got a message saying that the name Bill Gates was used during that chat instance and that the conversation was now monitored. They can go to hell.
So, on my to do list:
1. Get Linux.
2. Violate my Windows XP installer disk.
3. Buy a Macbook.
So, about that Linux versions, wich one should I get?
I already tried Linux PC and loved it, but I heard of some new versions out there?
Upgrading myself.

It's called a Linux distro (short for distribution), not version. I'd go for Ubuntu, it's awesomely easy to use and set-up and really user friendly. You really don't need anything "heavier".

Vista isn't that bad. They've made all sorts of subtle inprovements to it like seperate volume sliders for each program. Back when they first announced the required computer specs, I was floored, but now those specs are the norm. (You'll still want a really fast CPU, dedicated DX9/10 graphics card and 2GB+ of RAM though. Ironically, as I found out using my friend's computer, is that these specs only run Vista comfortably rather than insanely fast in XP.) Once Vista becomes mainstream, the chicken and egg problem of software releases/ bug fixes will be solved and there'll be no problem with Vista. But if you want to jump ship and use a less compatible, harder to use or more expensive computer, fine.

I doubt that Vista will EVER become mainstream, you can read about all sorts of companies switching to Linux, even the Swedish police and the French govermet switched! Windows is on it's way out, Mac and Linux are getting the attention they so deserv.

I can agree with less compatible (even though Linux can pretty much run anything Windows can) and harder to use (even though Ubuntu is so easy to operate a child could do it) but more expensive? Kid me not! Vista alone costs a MINIMUM of like $130, and the hardware required to run it quite a lot more. Almost all Linux distros are free and run on almost anything. Stop being a stupid douche.

As much as I hate to admit it, Windows is not leaving anytime soon. People will realize Linux is better, but the conversion for ALL the software on Windows will be slow, painful, and unfortunately won't happen for another couple of years. BTW, I played with vista ultimate in the back of staples store after closing on the day it came out. Didn't think it was worth the money.

Are you absolutely sure that Hammer will run under Linux? I read an article about that a while ago, and nobody could get the 3D view window to work.

You can't make games without DX.Wrong. OpenGL is a far more stable platform for graphics, and it's compatible with OS X, Windows XP and Linux distros. Doom 3 was built on OpenGL architecture.
In fact, OpenGL has a lot of advantages over DirectX.
