What are you talking about? Make what stuff?
Are you talking about making a map for the Source Engine?
If so, you want to go into Steam, install the Source SDK (under Tools) and open Hammer. There are tutorials to the left so that you can learn how to map for Source.

As it's under Source Engine Discussion, he obviously want to make HL2 maps or whatever. Is there any other way other than steam, cause I just got my HL2 running and want to have a go at making some maps.

Nope. You need a legal copy of Half-Life 2 (Singleplayer or Deathmatch), Counter-Strike: Source, or Day of Defeat: Source to make a map. =D

Heh? What are you talking about srry? Mine is fully licenced, just running through a friend's Steam account. Only had it three days and I've almost finished it so that's why I wanna get the new hammer for it. You can't just accuse me of stuff like that! 
Anyway, I couldn't by my own HL2 'cause they discontinued them in my town so when the HL2 box set comes out in September I'm gonna get that one.

once you get into steam you need to look around and get comfortable with it. Then you need to find the SDK which stands for software developers kit.
After that you need to read some tutorials on how to get HAMMER set up. Hammer is the map editing program.
after that, you need to get into HAMMER and do some tutorials on how to start mapping.
