I've just got my usable (P4-class) computer back after 1 month. I've installed winxp with integrated sp2 on it, and I can't connect to the internets with it (DSL). It always tells me, that the username / password is incorrect. But I'm 100% sure, that they are right, because I used that username and password on my piece of shit P200 MMX (I'm using it right now as a matter of fact) at the time, when I didn't had this comp. Xp recognized the integrated LAN on my my motherboard - it didn't work with that. Then I used the driver on the motherboard CD - didn't work. I also tried it with a PCI-Ethernet Card, and still, the same error. I've tried it with the PPPoE program, what my ISP gave to me, with the same error...

So, I'm pretty fucking sure, that it's some other error, but I don't know what it can be. I fucked around for like 2 hours at the network options, but nothing seems to help.

Does anyone know, what the problem could be? Thanks for your help.

Have you tried downloading the latest drivers off the manufacturer's website? And all the other drivers are already installed?

Is it possible you aren't even installing the drivers at all? I just had a slightly similar experience on my Windows 2000 laptop, and I thought I could just run the EXE and it would install the drivers, but I actually had to go into the device manager and manually install them from there.

I'm guessing this is a driver problem, not your settings, because I've never had to do much of anything with them.

I've tried all of the drivers on the CD, even adding them in the device manager, but I still have this error. Any other ideas?

Uh... this might be a stupid question, but are you sure your integrated LAN/ethernet adapter even works? New network interface cards are extremely inexpensive, you know...

Ok guys, solved it.

The whole story: I had an XP on my hard drive, and after my machine got repaired (the processor died) this one did not want to run anymore. Obviously because of the new motherboard and processor. Thats why I had to reinstall XP, but this was not the same version, which was previously on my comp, the old one was a simple XP Professional, with no SPs, and this - as I mentioned - was with integrated SP2. So, I got another XP CD from my friend (which is hungarian, this was english) and with that, I could repair my previous fucked-up windows. Internets is working perfectly with this repaired one...there was something wrong with that english version, I think.
