When using vertex manipulation to wrap brushes around a cylinder or something, which method is better?
A) http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/6113/utopium1le4.jpg
B) http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/475/utopium2qi9.jpg
I've always used method B because its much neater in Hammer. But method A would only draw 9 polygons ingame, whereas method B would draw 16. Still, something about A just seems nasty and unwanted.

For situations like that, i've always done it like so:

Not too sure if dramatically increases performance, but it definately looks the neatest and minimises enough brushwork.

EDIT: Err, minus the big divide in the rectangle, that is. My bad.

I think I'd use method either /b/ or Strideh's way, simply because of their neatness. Although I admit, my r_speeds have never been high enough that I've needed to pay attention to a few extra polygons being drawn.

i use Strideh's method except the cut rectangle

[edit]
oops, he mentioned that.

;)

Ultimately, I don't think any of these methods contribute anything noticable to the performance, but it pays to be neat.
