I have made my map with displacements to make the cliffs and ledges, I have painted the textured where rock and grass and gravel meet and they all look nice and neat but when I run it in HL2DM, all my alpha textures are inverted. Where there was rock is now grass and vice versa. I can fix it by selecting all the displacements and pressing "Invert Alpha" but why is this happening?

it seems to be a common, but not definate occurance.

A friend of mine has the exact same problem, which proved very confusing when i sent him a .vmf we were co-making.
I'd just added some displacements, and he IM'd me asking why i'd put the grass on the wrong side. Compiled; it looked like it did in my hammer, but in his hammer it was the wrong way round.

So i have no real answer, but simply the info that you're not the only one.

Something like this happened to me in hl1. It was with a half life texture so what i did was "open up the texture in wally. Than copied it and saved it as my own texture with a new name and than replaced the halflife texture with my newly made texture in hammer and for some reason it fixed it" :)

What type of graphics card do you have? I used to have this problem running on a GeForce 2. It was an issue that Valve recognised with users running on DX7/8 that I thought they fixed. As you said though, simply inverting the alpha in Hammer will "fix" it.

I'm not sure what card I have, I'll have to find out but I'm pretty sure it's quite powerful. I can run HL2 with most of the settings on medium but can't go higher because I lack the processor and memory (my laptop is a couple of years old now). Anyway, the level is finished now and it's in the map vault.
