LOL I didn't see that ingame?
It's in the first (I think) "hidden" room, located behind a broken "wall-pusher" thingy. Err. There are a few of those in the game.
The backstory stuff is pretty neat.
I lol'd like hell at all the shower curtains. Awesome humour, on that page and throughout the game :) .

All the humor in Portal is great, but it seems like Aperture Science is a pretty big deal in the Half Life story, so AS's humor doesn't really fit with HL's serious nature. It throws me off :zonked:

I did that before, and I got the same thing as "This video has been removed by the user" on youtube.

Well, i found out I got very good grades in a major major test, so my dad said he'll get me a game. So I'll be getting Orange Box very soon.

You're a fucking liar, dude. You said you pre ordered, and don't make me find the quote.

EDIT: I did anyways.

From the "TF2 or FF?" thread, FIRST PAGE:
Oh, and I preordered TF2 more than 18 months ago, I'm sure of it. And preordered Orange Box for Episode 2 and Portal as well.
You just loss all of your credibility. Don't even bother responding.

Gamestop lost the preorder. I shit you not, I even have the voice mail they left on our phone. I went to check what had changed, and my reservation was gone. I even got a little stuffed Sonic, because I pre-ordered a game. I didn't bother with them, because it was only five bucks.

I know your gonna just shoot it down anyway, so I don't give a shit. I'll regain credibility when I give my thoughts on the game. I just haven't found the time to get the game, that's all. I have a a very large amount of school work at the moment.

Also, you have no life if you actually went looking for that post. If you want, I can see if I can fetch a post of mine from the FF forums, in which I said Gamestop lost it. You really think this matters? I didn't get the game yet, big deal. I don't know why you seem to have this little personal vendetta against me Luke, I said when I get the Orange Box, I'll give TF2 a fiar look. Not too mention the cracks are showing through FF now, and I'm pretty much done playing it. I'm actually HOPING TF2 is better right now, because frankly, FF isn't all it's cracked up to be, because while it's still great... it doesn't seem fresh enough to me.

And finally, if I had a pre-order anyways, that doesn't mean I picked up said pre-ordered copy the day it was released, no? (of course, it would be past 2 days now, so...)

EDIT: And yes, I know I said "give us proof" about the testing thing in the TF2 thread. Do me a favor, and just let it be. When I buy the game, I'll take a screen of the games in my Steam games list.

EDIT 2: And, now that I think about it, didn't I post on here before that GS lost it?

On a separate note, I already started the brush work for a Portal map in GTK Radiant. When i get the orange Box, I'll switch it over to hammer by exporting it to .map.

And hey... I realize that a lot of stuff I said about FF turned out to be very wrong. They have about twelve people playing right now. It's a shame, too- they put a lot of hard work into it. Still, you can't deny it: Valve did pretty much turn their backs on the old veterans of the game. But whatever, I am, again, going to give TF2 a fair chance, at least as much as I can hope to.
And, people will still be making TF mods for new games/engines. A UT3 version is probably inevitable (Hell, I think a group has already started one.)

Luke doesn't have a vendetta against you...he has a vendetta against everyone.
Almost* everyone.

And FINALLY, you admit your ideas were wrong. FF is garage compared to TF2, and you'll see that when you play it.

Garbage?

I honestly don't think it's that. I still think it deserves a larger fanbase than it has at the moment.

Also, don't lie: it was an uneven fight, because Valve was the big company here.

By the way... I'm just curious...

have you even played FF yet?

Just a little something I would like to know...

Let me be more specific: I was wrong when I said FF was here to stay.
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-18 21:04:31 UTC Post #236622
I said compared, I never said it was complete garbage. Even though I whole heartedly think it is utter crap, for the sake of argument, compared to TF2, FF sucks.

Sure, Valve is a big company, but look at Black Mesa Source. They killed Valve's version of HL1 source, and they're some kids who decided to make a mod.

Yes, I've played FF. I think it was rushed to release, and the game suffered indefinitely from it. Bad models, bad maps, untested game play = not a good game.

Because of this, it doesn't have a large fanbase. It deserves what it earned, and that's nothing.

Posted 17 years ago2007-10-18 21:06:17 UTC Post #236623
Off topic: Did Black Mesa release? I sure as hell want to play that.

My point is.. I'm really upset how Valve seems to have catered to new players completely, with no concern for us veterans at all.

Grenades suck?

Redesign them, don't just kill them, There were problems with the old grenade system, yes, but they could have easily been fixed. Valve cutted a design corner, in my honest opinion. They should have tried to redesign them first, before just tossing them. Either way, I don't know how it will turn out, as I don't have the Orange Box (YET.)
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-18 21:12:07 UTC Post #236624
BMS isn't out yet, but when it does come out, I'm jumping right on it.

On topic: I see where you're coming from. Even though veterans were thrown out the window and disregarded, you can't hate them for making a great game.

Not matter how much you say that TFC was a classic and should've been remade, you gotta look at the bigger picture: TF2 is by no means TFC, and by no means supposed to be TFC.

Valve never set out to remake an old game, they set out to make a new game, same elements, though, to a new audience, and that would appeal to a bigger community.

As you can see, they succeeded, and won the hearts of people new and old to the series alike. You gotta remember, businesses are supposed to make as much money as possible on a product, and they don't care who they leave behind, even it is loyal TFC vets.

/me plays "The times are changin'" by Bob Dylan. Then possibly "Dust in the wind."

Exactly. Great to new and moderate people, but for people like me, I don't know if I can FIND it to be great to.

Hell, I hope some TF mod takes TF2's art style, do some moderate gameplay (simply balance the nade system) and just leave it as that. Not sure if a server plugin, like mentioned before, could do it though.
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-18 21:18:31 UTC Post #236626
When you play it, you'll see that you don't even need nades. They'd probably piss you off more, if anything.

Nade spamming was always a problem in TFC.

The only thing I expect from TF2 still is Hunted, Rock2, Avanti, and Flagrun.

How do you know they didn't? They could've just been a bad idea from the start, we'll never really know.

I wouldn't consider improving the gameplay and widening the target audience to be showing no concern for so called veteran players at all.

Avanti would be great with the art style, no doubt.

Tiodd Hollenshead once said something very wise about Doom and Doom 3: When as many people have played Doom as much as they have, they feel it is a tiny bit "their" game. That's how I feel; neither you, much less me, can escape that. I want the game that got me into online gaming.
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-18 21:24:42 UTC Post #236629
Ah yes, forgot about how they probably did have nades at first. I mean, why wouldn't they?

Something obviously didn't work out.

And I didn't wanna say veterans were disregarded, forgot to add a few words, suck as "it seems like".

It's kinda like DoD to source maybe? (I haven't played TF2 yet) As you know, they subtracted (as well as added) to that rather than pulling and Counter-Strike.
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-19 03:53:40 UTC Post #236641
I never really got into TFC, but I have a number of friends who were hardcore TFC fans and I figured they would probably be heavily critical of TF2. Instead, it's just been the opposite; they enjoy TF2, and I've really gotten into it as well. When a game can attract new players as well as keep the hardcore fans from previous versions or iterations thereof then you know something's right.

On the other hand, I didn't have as much fun with FF as I thought I would. Releasing a mod has no bearing on it's fun factor or how well it plays. I much prefer TF2; it's just more entertaining.

TF2 is like killing midgets in a circus. tragically hilarious. and more fun than stealing twenty thousand bouncy balls and releasing them at the top of a steep road. (okay, maybe not THAT fun, but it lasts longer)

24/7 ctf maps, no cussing (yeah i know i know, but its a family clan) It's a new server and not all our guys play tf2 yet so we need some regs to get it going.

And there's cake.*

I just got back from GameStop, Orange Box in hand. But before I can play, I have to get my ATi driver problem sorted out, since I'm on Vista. :( A friend is going to give me a link to Omega drivers, and see if they run any better.

Anybody have suggestions that may help, so I can play?

EDIT: Well, Omega drivers don't have Vista versions out yet, so I'm at a loss.

Use XP. There's a suggestion for you.

Best suggestion evar. Vista doesn't even exist to me.

well, I have an old PC running XP, still pretty good, although it doesn't even meet the minimum requirements.

So unfortunately, not an option (this came preinstalled with Vista)

So install XP.
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-20 18:11:32 UTC Post #236745
No disc. And my dad would be pretty pissed if I uninstalled Vista, wince we would be unable to reinstall it.

It seems to be on ATi's end, since Nvidea works fine.

Then again, when I also installed the new card, I didn't check the power supply and stuff, so yea.

(When I say no disc, I mean my Dad has them somewhere i don't know. I Don't think he tries to keep them from me, I just don't know where he put them.)

I don't want to derail the thread, so I'll make a new one.

Back on topic: Finally started to play ep2...And my old piece of junk radeon 9550 can handle it on high settings! (800x600 tho') It's just awesome. The only sad thing, is that my monitor crapped in it's pants, so I have to play it on the only monitor left...on a 5 buck 14" Belinea :(

Isn't there supposed to be an SDK update with the Orange Box that allows for lighting preview in Hammer, or is that just a rumor?

Also, does anyone have an idea of when the SDK stuff for this generation of games is released?
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-20 20:30:39 UTC Post #236753
Well, I think I finaly fixed my driver problem after six months. I uninstalled my drivers, used a driver cleaning program to nuke any old drivers, then installed some slightly newer ones, and have been playing Portal for about 20 minuets with no crashes. Awesome game, I hope I can finish it soon.

So, with that being said: off to TF2.

Posted 17 years ago2007-10-20 21:07:03 UTC Post #236755
Well, my driver problem isn't completely fixed, but it was better now, and I was able to play for about fifteen minuets. My initial impressions:

First off, the art direction is, indeed, fantastic. It goes perfectly with TF. I like the nice touches they did with the UI too, and with some of the player models, such as the fatty smiling after squeezing some rounds off for a short amount of time.

However, while it does seem to be a fun game, I felt way too limited in what I could do compared to the traditional formula. They changed too much. I mean, come on, when someone dies, they don't even drop a fucking backpack with ammo anymore! (unless I missed it, only got to play for 15-20 minuets) They even had to change that! No trick jumping besides double jumping sucks, too.

It felt way to slow compared to the traditional formula. It's still fast, but not as fast, IMHO.

The game has it's fun moments, but I would hardly call it the best multi player game ever, at least right now. I would like to get some more playtime, although ATi drivers that insist on being a bitch keep me from doing so. 8/10. It IS a great game, I will give it that, but it doesn't feel like a "true" TF game to me. I feel pretty disappointed- in the end, neither FF nor TF2 seem to be what I wanted. I was hoping that when I was done playing, I would be writing an apology email to Gabe Newell for being so damn critical in every forum post, but I'm not.

Still, I think I need more playtime to be sure.
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-21 00:18:29 UTC Post #236758
Backpacks are replaced with fallen weapons.

The only non-fast paced element is the stupid spawn times. Those are the dumbest part of the game.

No, I mean what I said.
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-21 09:00:59 UTC Post #236763
But um, it IS a "true" TF game. It's THE "true"erer of the two new ones.

Oh by the way guys, in case this hasn't been established earlier, it's damn fun.
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-21 09:07:09 UTC Post #236765
How is it true"er" than FF, simply because it has Valve behind it?

Um, no.

In the end I'm disappointed with both TF2 and FF. Neither gave me what I wanted. Neither game is more true than the other, frankly.

I gave it a fair shot, and didn't end up liking it as much.. I don't know what else you want.

Portal is still the shit though. PERIOD.

Have yet to try Episode 2, I want to get my driver issues sorted out first.
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-21 09:41:01 UTC Post #236767
I imagine it's truer to TF because it's had over 7 years worth of development on it, as well as the backing of TFC.

Skeetz, you just want way too much.

FF is almost a mirror image of TFC, just that it's source. If even that doesn't please you, then you obviously don't know what you want.

TF2 is a good game, but you're not seeing that because of what you expect. You shouldn't expect anything, only a new game that is somewhat like the old.

Ant, I think it's been said before, but most of that seven years they weren't actually doing anything to it. It's probably more like two or three years worth of actual development.
