I'll be honest and say that I don't know a lot about striders.
But anyways, a strider doesn't move freely, a strider needs path_corners and info_node_airs to be able to move around. (perhaps info_nodes too, long time since I did it)
When these are placed out, the strider will patrol along with the track.
Changing targets using timers and stuff can make it look like the strider is walking freely, but he really isn't.
You should google for a tutorial, striders are a pain.
I remember when I set one up, I just kept experimenting with different nodes and shit, and eventually it worked.
