I added 4 blocks to an error free map and VIS just refused to run after that.

I run the -chart parameter to tell what resources are being used and everything is fine.

There is no error in the compile log, i just get a "windows encountered an error" message and vis.exe shuts down. ( the rest of the compile completes)

Does it in both hammer 3.5 and batch compiler.

I reverted to a previous version and everything is fine now, but I spent hours looking for a problem and couldn't find anything and I have no idea what caused it to happen ( i didn't saved the messed-up map unfortunately)

What version of the tools do you have?

I had the same problem in one of my maps, I downloaded the latest zhlt and it fixed the problem.

The final zhlt release.

I've just never seen vis fail completely with no error... pretty weird.

try the copy paste thing.
You know, copy full map into another map and re-compile, or batch compile?
don't know if you do or not already.

I suggest not to use Hammer for compiles, use external ones like this:

Captian Terror, there is more than one zhlt final version, 3.4 is the latest version. If you don't have it, upgrade.

Your compiles tools could be corrupted, try re-downloading them.

If it happens again, I'll try the things you all have suggested, thanks! ( I wish I would have kept the corrupted map for testing purposes!)

EDIT:

This happened again, and I figured out the problem.

It's caused from overly-complex brushes or just a shitload of complicated geometry (i got this in my mobius map). Here's some fixes... all of these work independently:

-Under CSG run with "-cliptype precise" switch.
  • (full vis has no effect)
-Make the complex stuff func_walls

-I dunno if the copy/paste method Tetsu0 mentioned would work... I wish I would have tested it! (Again, I didn't save the offending map for further testing purposes like a moron).

-obviously, you can remake the whole thing! = )

Hope this helps somebody!
