I was thinking of a map speccially made for mappers. the map will be composed of lots of example maps!! but its not just a single map that i was talking about. im talking about many! the maps will be arranged according to type or anything (ex. func,env,etc.). we will gather all 9or maybe some of the ex. maps from tha map vault with the permission of the authors. also the creators of the ex. maps can also contribute in making of the maps.there will be an in-game tutorial (thanks to CaptainP for the idea). to teach mappers while they are having fun

so....have fun!!! :nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

At first I was skeptical, but a mapping tutorial in map form wouldn't be a terrible idea. The only problem is you wouldn't be able to work as you followed it, which unless you have an amazing short term memory, might be a bit difficult.

Also the point of most example maps is to be able to open them in hammer and see how they are set up, rather than just playing them. Otherwise, you wouldn't need them because you could just play a game and see all the "examples" you wanted.

one thing about that.. the creation aspect of it. I think alot of users would be alt-tab'in and typing 'restart' in the console alot. So you can't really do an ingame tutorial on something that must be built outside the game... :

Yeah, i agree that's what's stopping it. It's a good idea, I just don't think it's practical.

Well, if you gave all the enities a physical shape in the map it would go smoother... And have a narrator explaning everything as you go along.

So yeah, it's a good idea but it's not very practical.

the SDK example maps are basically in-game tutorials. They use in-game messages to explain what's doing what.

Oh yeah, I forgot all about those. Some of those are useful, basically like the example maps we have here with a text narration.
