I read halflife_genius' thread but the link didn't work. What is the editor called used to map for hl2 and where can I get it?

Choose one:
A)
A)
1) Use Google.1) Start Steam.
2) Click the "Tools" tab.
3) Double click "Source SDK".
4) Click "Next >".
5) Click "Next >" again.
6) Click "Finish".
7) Wait for it to download.
8) Double click "Source SDK" again.
9) Enjoy.

Hammer 3.4 won't work for source maps afaik. (i don't map for source, but I'm pretty sure)

You definately cannot use Hammer 3.4 to map for Source.

everytime I compile I have to wate for the valve loading scenes with the valve on the guys head and the powered by source screen and than some more loading. Can I avoid this, and why the heck do I have to open up hammer through steam?
