Okay my computer has a very weird problem, if I try to play Half life or Rainbow six Rogue spear a message comes up saying warning "your screen resolution should not be less then 800x600 in order to run this application". This message makes absolutely no sense to me when the resolution of my screen is set to 1024x768. What should I do

It's possible that your computer for some reason beyond sense is automatically putting your apps into compatability mode. One of the options of compatability mode is to start the app in question in 640 x 480.

Right click on your game shortcut, go to the compatability tab and make sure it's not set.

edit:

Error unrelated:

1024 x 768 is still ridiculously low by today's standards. Even a 4:3 monitor should be no less than 1152 x 864

I have noticed that the Half-Life WON main menu is always the same resolution (800x600) even if you computer is set to 1280x1024... (But this is totally unrelated to the error, so... sorry for the useless post)

Okay i've checked the compatibility mode and it isnt on, and this problem is still persisting so what should I do. And the reason why my computers resolution is at 1024x768 is because my monitor is incapable of going any higher

I've had that problem ever since I started using this modem (the same type as yours) but it's never actually stopped me playing.
If it's only after compiling a map, then Half-Life should still be running, it's just been minimised.

Thats true actually it has started doing that ever since I got my broadband modem, but there is a problem in that now when it minimises it will refuse to go to half life, instead every time I click on the half life link it just brings my computer back to desktop with that error message

Have you tried playing when you're not actually on the internet?
