I've just reformatted my PC the other day, and ahve jsut finished getting all my source games back up. I've been having a few problems with EP2, Gmod and probably Portal/TF2 as well.

I'm getting really bad stuttering in the game menus and in-game. I mean like, I see movement for a second then it stops for 10 seconds and so on. I've looked around the steam forums, no answer. I've reinstalled Gmod (Because that's the game I need to work) nothing helped. I did notice something going on my my Task Manager that looks a bit odd.

The svchost, compared to what it was before I reformatted and now I used to have 1 in the Task manager (To my knowledge) and now i have 5 or 6, that they are munching my CPU up. I'm thinking this may be the issue but I'm not sure.

If anyone has any Ideas on what I could try to fix this please, your help is needed.

Thanks.

EDIT: And my Video Drivers are on the latest version too.

First, get Process Explorer. It's better.

Second, don't worry about the number of svchosts running, I have 5 running right now, and it's normal.

As for ep2, try increasing your paged pool memory. You can google it or there is a tool to do it for you here (I haven't tried it). Increase it to the highest (384mb) and reboot.

Fixed it, the nVidia Firewall (Which I can't delete) is the problem. After I removed processes linked to it everytihng works.

nVidia has a firewall that you have and can't delete? what the fuck.

Lulz, NVIDIA Firewall. I had the choice to not install that, personally...

Where did you go to find this? I have NVIDIA and would like to see if i have a firewall. If i do I'll take mine down.

it's an optional software iirc. he probably can't remove it because it's not his computer and whoever owns it wants it on.

Antsmith, you need to be an administrator on your computer, if it is yours.

Ugh old thread but I'll just confirm.

It's my computer, I'm administrator on it but it wanted to remove a crap load of other stuff that I needed with it. I got it removed and now everything works.
