I realize that there is a little less than 0% of this being possible, but maybe today is my lucky day! Alright, someone fixed up an old mac laptop they found and gave me it. I understand that I can get leopard and use bootcamp to install windows onto it, but that is a lot of work and I don't think the laptop will run all too well with all that extra stuff on it. Is there any possible miracle that valve hammer can be used on osx? I want to map on the go :D

Would'nt it be easier for you to just find a cheap used notbook with Windows on it?
Because im pretty sure Hammer (and Half-Life) will not run on a Mac.

Muzz has the right idea. If it were a Mac PC I'd suggest the duel boot thing as it works great on my friend's one.

Both me and Ant duel-boot XP on our macbook pros. Duel booting is the way to go.

Emulators can be glitchy and unreliable, and even the best ones are a bit slower and not all programs work with them.

Before you go anywhere, Bootcamp is only avaliable on Intel powered Macs, not PowerPCs.

Just checked and it's powerpc so no xp for me :[

Doesn't any of the other editors run on a Mac? QERadiant, Quark? Probably not, but perhaps that's worth a try. Well, at least Quark is open-source so it should be possible to compile a Mac version, if you're into that kind of thing...

Download CrossOver.
It lets you run Windows applications, and is based on Wine.
You can run Steam and play GoldSource/Source games then, too.
I have tried Hammer with CrossOver and it worked.

If you ever want to browse the files on a bottle (where all files are stored), press Configure>Manage Bottles>Advanced>Open C: Drive in Finder.

Oops. Just found out that it doesn't work with PPC CPUs.

Didn't EA drop the bullshit and decide to release their games to both systems? Or was that for Linux?... I haven't paid much attention to the gaming industry lately, a weekly review with the crazy, Austrailian Englishman seems like enough :P

Anyway, I really can't see the point in installing a poor OS on an old Mac.
That's like filling something beautiful with poo... More or less.

Hammer will run, though. But you'd have to use those emulatiors and crap to get it running. But I don't think you'd be able to map on it, if we can't do it on Vista wich is a Microsoft product, I don't see why it would be anymore smooth on a mac.

EA are bringing over a bunch of their current games to the Mac platform. It's not a direct dump either: the games have to be retooled somewhat to work.

Ah, so mapping will maybe be possible, but different?
Posted 15 years ago2008-05-22 07:25:30 UTC Post #250241
Mapping for Source will be completely impossible on a Mac unless you're running XP. EA's move only affects EA developed games, not published ones.

Oh, yeah. That's true. But mac users usualy aren'g gamers, and Mac's usualy aren't home PC's, they're often workrelated.

1) Sell your Mac.
2) Buy an old laptop capable of running HL/Hammer
3) Profit.

Fine argument you got there, kraken!

Im primary a Windows PC uses, with shame.
I do perfer Mac computers, Mac OS and Linux over MS products, but some programs that I need are keeping me from forever getting the fuck out of the MS swamp.

Back to the original topic:
I think you should try to get Hammer running on that Mac of yours.

you must remove OSX and install windows. This is because macs suck balls.

User posted image You don't need to remove OS X to run Windows.

User posted image You can run most Windows programs if you have a Mac with an Intel CPU. All new Macs does have an Intel CPU.

User posted image How many programs made for Mac OS X can you run on a PC running Windows? Almost none.

So, please shut up.

okay potatis

1) of course you don't need to remove it, I never said you did.

2) clearly macs don't run hammer, which is what this thread is about.

3) what kind of mac specific software would you want to run on windows anyway?
