Tools are made to complete a certain task. If you can give us any hints on what your going to need it for then it might be easier to recommend anything.

I recently had to reinstall from scratch. Here's my setup files for my current use (like Pepper said, your needs may vary from mine):

ZHLT 3.4 final
Nem's batch compiler 3.12
Muzz Compilator
Muzz Half-Life Launchpad
Jeb Smith's HLFix
Jeb Smith's HL Model Viewer 1.25
Hammer 3.5 (model support in editor)
FGD Halflife version 3.0.0.1 (for model support)
FGD addition to allow switchable textlights (check texture light tutorial comments)
Decompile: WinBSP and BSPtoMap
Resgen v110 - tells you what resources are used in a map like wads, skyfiles, etc.
sprview - sprite viewer
wally 1.55 (textures)

That's all i have for now! = )

Nem's GCFScape is also pretty good if you're running Steam and want to inspect the standard files that comes with the game: http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=25

Wow i can't believe i forgot that one. = ) I guess you could add PakScape too if you're dealing in WON only, but i think GCFScape handles .pak files too?

Good on you Killer-Duck. = D

Hey, is there any tools to make Half Life maps for, or at the very least, modify or convert existing Half Life maps to play on the Xbox 360's version of Half Life? I have heard rumors of people putting custom Half Life maps on the Xbox 360's hard drive and being able to use them while playing the game on the system. Now, some people that I have talked to on other forums, have told me that the Xbox 360 need to be modded for for this to work, but I don't know if this is true or not. Has anybody heard anything on this?

If it was possible at all, the console would have to be modded. I don't think that it's possible even then, though.

The problem is that consoles have their own OS or at least a modified one which means that a game on a PC will have to be recoded to work on a console. It is possible like UT3 have done, created a tool to compile maps on the PC for the PS3 version but you can't use that map on a PC anymore. Also, the console version of the game has to be able to import custom content and the console has to be able to load it. I don't know about the Xbox but the PS3 does have this ability but HL doesn't load custom content!
