rips hair out

No no no. I MEAN i am NOT going to use it for creating ANY terrain, only for the shapes. Not because it does both but because I am so used to Gensurf i am not finding it any easier (or harder) to use. I WILL still use it to create those different shapes.

OKAY!!! YOU UNDERSTAND ME NOW!!!

are we still friends???

The update is great, but it still confuses the hell out of me, mainly because if im in Twist mode, and the settings are set to Smooth Mode, for about 10 mins I was able to twist a W-512 L-1024 displacement 360 deg, but after that it just put the setting to 180 whenever i tried to do it.

Which makes me wonder how you create a twisting coridoor for example, it's either impossible with the current build, rather complex or im missing something. Can anyone help?

Livewire, you need to use Hammer as well as Twister to get the twisted hallway.

Create a twist in "Hallway mode"
Open it in Hammer
Copy it
Right click > Paste special
-Number of copies to paste: 3
-Rotation: 270
-Everything else 0
Arrange the 3 new displacements so that they form a hallway with the corners just touching in the x/z (bottom right) view. It should look like this:

Hope this helps. If you still can't figure it out I can send you my example map.

EDIT: Also, it scales the twist maximum down by the resolution of the displacement. Try setting displacement power to 4, you should be able to do 360 degrees.

EDIT2: Maybe not. I can't manage to do it :P
Possible bug noted.

Hey Penguin, is there a guide you wrote for this? Some guy on Interlopers basically asked me if there was one so I went for a quick look.

You made it so you should be able to answer.

Wait, what's Twister doing on Interlopers?

I'll get round to making a full guide, but there are little 'miniature guides' scattered through this thread. I made a post a little while back on the basics of how to use the formula, convert, and random heightmaps, and theres the guide just above your post on how to use the twist tool to make a hallway. The other tools are pretty self-explanatory. But I will make up a guide when I have time.

Alrighty.

You can thank yourself. It's a good program and that post above where you helped Livewire, well he used the twisted corridor for a compo entry and people asked questions.

edit

And I see you found the thread.
