I remember about a year ago I heard they (Hollywood) were doing a movie that was going to be more or less a cross between the Counter Strike video game and the Running Man movie, you know, the one with Arnold Schwarzenegger. But this time around, the star of the new movie is Gerard Butler, the guy who played "King Leonidas" on the movie 300.

Well, they finally did it and they have already the first movie trailer up online! But first, here's a piece of description of the movie (you might need to click on the "Open in new window" to read it better):

And here's the Quicktime trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/gamer/

My personal comments: I hope this movie does not turn out to be a piece of shit like the Doom movie.

End of the movie: Terrorists win.

Well, that would leave room for a sequel, wouldn't it?

No, because it was a de_map.
And when I say terrorists, I mean the fictional equivelent of microsoft.

Oh, I get it. Hey JeffMOD, maybe eventually 20 or 30 years from now, the Xbox Live network might morph in to something like shown in the movie trailer!

Well since you put it that way, I might have to see if I find those two flicks at my local video rental store, and check them out.

My biggest concern is that this could turn into another Hollywood political speech about how "evil" modern FPS games make people. They do try to make political speeches with some of their movies these days.

As long as there isn't another Columbine or Virginia Tech type massacre when the movie hits theaters, everything should be fine. Now, the one nut case that stands out in doing these political speech documentary movies, is none other than Michael Moore. His wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Moore

This is by the same idiots who brought us Crank and Crank 2, so I know it's going to be garbage.

eXistenZ sucked ass. Im positive this will be better than that :x

The story sucked, and it had too many "wtf?" and grotesque moments in a bad way.

Yea, those Crank movies were not exactly Oscar material, they were too degenerate, even for my tastes. That scene on the 2nd movie, where Jason Statham man-handles on a sexual way some old lady in public was something I did not need to see.

Bummer. Tell me you did not paid money to go watch it....!

I quite liked the story. Sure, it was a bit hard to follow, but - for me at least - was clear in the end.

As for the grotesque moments...well yeah, that's common for cyberpunk flicks.

But my point is, that there are numerous films, that already done this, I was just giving you two examples, but the list goes on.

Pathetic attempt in shovelling some extra cash from the geekier part of the audience. Cheesy Hollywood crap up the arse, judging from the trailer. All they need now is Uve Boll.

I got excited when i read about the plot. It reminded me of unreal tournament. Great plot, but i think it's going to succumb to a poor execution, and turn out to be extremely mediocre. I wont be seeing it in theaters that's for sure.

Every movie / series based on a videogame is terrible.

Every movie / series that makes up a videogame is terrible.

Until Valve announce that they are working on a feature length TF2 movie, I'm not listening.
