Ok anyone else get this problem:

You're doing the triangle terrain method, and you select a bunch of vertices...
You click and drag.. but instead of dragging the 40 vertices you selected, you grab one fucking random vertex and deselects everything else.
why
why
why

I apologise. I'm trying to get my map done, and this was a problem i just dealt with until now. And i can't deal with it anymore.. Any suggestions?

I don't understand how you ended up selecting another vertex. Is it that hard to place your pointer on the right one? I've never had this problem. I have had similar problems trying to select whole brushes in 2d views, but that's different. I'm thinking maybe one of your settings is off.

My best advice is to select a single brush before switching to vm mode to select its verticy rather than trying while many are selected. Use "shift s" and "shift v" to swith back and forth quickly. I get your problem sometimes my self, just having one brush selected at a time should help.

I get this problem too, so I shall keep an eye on this thread.

If you're doing this in 3D, then it's just something Hammer does sometimes.
If the camera isn't more or less alligned with the grid then it seems to be more prominent, so all I can suggest is just face a good 90x degree angle in 3D when you do VM.

Sorry if it's not the answer you're looking for.

Just a Hammer bug, really. Happens to me sometimes too, although I never VM in the 3D view.

That never occured to me. What does happen all the time to me is that when you try to select some vertices by dragging a selection box around them, the selected brushes deselect and the one you had your mouse cursor on becomes selected.

And sometimes, the selection box selects not a single vertex once you release the mouse button, so you have to draw a selection box again. And yes, i have autoselect on.

That, is some fuck.

I KNOW!

I think it has something to do with the first window you start drawing the selection box in. Because i group all the objects i VM, and there's always a bunch when i go to select so i need to swap views in order to shrink or expand the selection box.

I'll have to pay attention next time to some factors:

Which window i started making the selection box
Which window i hit enter in
Whether or not i swap windows when selecting
Which window i try to click and drag in after making my selection
