My dad came to me asking about making a desktop PC have wireless internet connection. All I know right now is that you can use a PCI card that'll do the job. Question:

Does the PCI card have to match the router/modem (say they both have to be from NetGear - as that is my case)?

Note: Not planning to use a USB adapter as according to some people, it gets very hot.

touches my USB adapter and agrees

Usually not. It's definately preferable and advisable, as some software/adapters/modems/whatever use their own code or signal, not a generic one that is generally readable by all devices. So, I would strongly recommend you do get matching products, otherwise if you opt for different brands, at least ask the manufacturers or check the web to see if the devices work with other products
