hey im trying to make a nice dark map with a good shadow and nice night effect, but when i change the brightness/shadow settings in light_environment my models show up almost if not black and really dark/hard to see.
Ive tried putting a light entity near it but the light_environment just overrides it.

Brightness 255 208 121 "120"

shade 255 208 121 "80"

I read somewhere on the forum that player models get their light from the surface below them, maybe it's the same with all models?

This- I've seen the problem before with enviroment models.
Make sure you have an angle for the light_env, and making it bluish will add nice atmosphere without having to make it too dark.
If it's the right shade, you can have almost full brightness and nobody will notice.

Fixed it. the model needed a surface below them to light up.

Indeed.
To reiterate: for a model to be lit properly in Goldsrc, there must be a world brush under it's origin. Sky brushes don't count, and the brush doesn't have to cover the entire area of the model (only the origin).
