I'm sure that, by now, the majority of the population who haven't been living under a rock have heard of Chrome OS. I just downloaded the source, the VMware version and the USB version, just to check it out.

So, who has it?

PS: If you want it, the links are;

You'll need an account on Gdgt for the compiled versions

I'm gonna have to side with TheGrimReafer on this one. This idea of "cloud computing" thing might look pretty on paper, but in reality,....I rather have all my data with me, on my hard drive, and not on some collection of servers which I have no control over. And besides, I don't trust Google that much, they have become way to big and dominant of late. And you know what they say about power.....

I really don't like the idea of having my computer limited to a browser. Especially since if you don't have an internet connection, you're hosed.

I can see this being useful for some netbook users. Other than that, no thanks.

I think this is one of those really great ideas that should have stayed on paper and maybe get integrated with future projects somehow when the idea becomes more developed. But not now, oh Jesus not now.

Definitely not worth it. Why would I want to limit myself?

Must go with the majority here. I believe that the OS doesn't support a hard drive at all? Nothing but Chrome browser running on the linux kernel? No thanks. I mean, if I wanted a machine that did nothing but internet, I'd put Firefox on a Ubuntu box. And instantly I'd have a billion more options than Chrome OS.

This is a miserable attempt done by Google who tries to become a superpower of the internet. I'm not going to download it, it's useless and it's internet dependent.

I think in 10-15 years, this idea would be a great one.

By then, every household will have fast internet access, and connection problem will be a thing of the past.
