@discostu, i totally know you ripped my .wav man. straight from my raving map, the beta, before it is even released. come clean man. i'm not upset that you straight ripped the .wav, thats what its there for. but the fact i'm not even mentioned in the credits.. what the hell man. btw, the featured artist is 'benny benassi' remixed by the 'global dj's'.
What do you mean he stole the track from you? all you seemed to have done was convert it.. If you made the track entirely by your self that would be different.. but seriously if DiscoStu uses that wav for his mod well then sure he should say thanks for converting the track.. but he doesn't have to credit you, benny benassi.. yes.

Latest Version available for testing:

FileFront Download
X10 Download

The biggest change to this version is that the player will return to the menu map from the bonus map, credits, and normal play. All the bugs associated with doing this in the past have been fixed, except one really weird one. When you return to the menu from normal play, some models from other maps appear in the menu map! I have no explanation why this is happening, but if someone has an idea, let me kno! =)

All the other changes listed by authors and testers we're implemented! Many thanks to all playtesters!

There are some things you haven't fixed:

-Rim tree textures and align brush
-add player_weaponstrip as you play the game

I can fix those myself, just give a sign when you think we're ready for the final compile.

I actually did on both accounts.

weaponstrip: i just tested it, and the weaponstrip works. check the .rmf of rooms.rmf although it still shows a partial ammo clip (the "14" in the hud):

As for rims map, yes i did align, and fixt the transparency. the black thing in the background will disappear with a full-vis compile.

btw, does the x10 link work for you now, and if yes, is it faster than ff?

Did you set the menu map to clear entities on map start?
Might want to do that for the 1st room map, too.

What does that clear entities thingie do exactly anyway? Does it reset counters and targets and such?

Yeah i didn't copy the new version to the download.. my bad. The weaponstrip works in regular HL which is what i test in, but it does not work in mod format fsr. Also, there is an equip that's supposed to reequip you with the pistol when you come back to the menu from playing the last map, but it also does not work in mod format.

I'll dick around with it upload the fixes asap.

All the changes are made, but i'm still having weaponstrip problems. When the player returns to the menu from the playing rooms, the game_player_equips do not work for some reason, and it's really annoying.

If i can't figure out how to fix this problem soon, I'm simply eliminating the weaponstrips, and you'll have to go though the game with the glock. anyone have an idea how to fix this?

UPDATE:

k, hopefully this is the final version to test, and this will be the last beta test before the first official release! =)

Download:
x10 Hosting
Filefront

I ran through the whole thing and everything seems to work ok. There are a few glitches as mentioned in the readme, but nothing major. How i tested:

1. start the game and "play" rooms, all the way through.
2. after returning to menu, play "audio commentary" all the way through.
3. after being returned to the menu again, play the "bonus map"
4. after being returned to menu once again, play "roll credits".
5. and finally after that, i shoot the "exit" menu item to end the game.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who tests this final version before release! = )

YAY THANKS :D

I had a dream a few nights ago, about my Rooms entry. It was AWESOME! It wasn't too much different than what it is now, there were just a few extra details that made it uber cool. But then again, it was a dream so after waking up I realised the changes were rather stupid - such as bizarre toggling texlights (like the fifties_ ligts from halflife.wad) on the walls.

Uhm, the download links of x10 Hosting and Filefront are not the same. The X10 version of rooms has less maps and it doesn't start in the menu map, it starts in the first room map. It also misses the main menu art.

Did you screw up? This is really confusing.

Please, make sure the rmf's are error and leak free! Yesterday, i compiled intro01, but could'nt because of a leak. I opend the rmf in Hammer, and i noticed that entire sections of the map were exposed to the void (no ceiling). Some stuff were also vis grouped and made invisible. Very annoying, because you have a massive list of vis groups, which really makes it hard to figure out which one seal off the exposed sections.

Would you mind sending me a working error free version of intro01 (if the one in the latest links still have stuff invisible).

Edit: intro01.rmf in that latest link leaks on me. Fix that, and reupload.
Edit2: Nevermind, i enabled the vis group. Its compiling now.

no. you're getting leaks because your compile is set to ignore stuff that is visgrouped. I don't use that option, because i find it annoying to do 2-hour compile, only to find i forgot to make all my groups visible. Also, notice all the preview maps had light that i compiled with fast vis. This would not be the case if any of the maps had the leaks of which you speak. =)

I can compile the whole thing if you really don't want to do it, just list the optimum rad settings you use to compile with and i'll use those.
The file doesn't include rooms.wad
you're right! I have no explanation how this could have happened. I thought maybe, when i was copying rooms from my halflife folder, maybe the rooms.wad hadn't finished or failed to copy, but i checked the mod folder and the wad is gone!! =O (again, no idea how this file got deleted, unless it happend by accident when i deleted the config.cfg before releasing it (so nobody gets my twisted binds)) =)

this said, there were no texture changes since the last time, so if you still have the last package, that wad will work too if you still have it. I'm updating the rar now and will post the new links when they are finished uploading.

Sorry! =(

Started compiling the map 6 hours ago, and it's still doing LeafThread!
That's rediculous. What did you do to it? Last time i compiled, weeks ago, long before all those fixes were made, it compiled much faster.
Edit: I cancelled it, will try again tomorrow.

And no, id like to do the final compile of everything, because i have some additional "surprises" planned for the mod (just small things, nothing spectacular really, but still neat).

As for light values, i just use the default rad settings (lights.rad). mapname.rad files and in-map info_texlights values override the light.rad file values.

Anyway, as far as i understand it, i should compile intro01 with all the visgroups visible OR with the Visible Objects HLFix flag unchecked, because that's the same.
The Mad Carrot The Mad CarrotMad Carrot
Posted 14 years ago2010-01-07 20:52:26 UTC Post #277503
please take your lights.rad out of the equation so you don't have to compile it twice, (the light values were off last time, so maybe it doesn't consistently "override" the mapname.rad?). Also, make sure you've copied all the included mapname.rad to your hammer/maps folder (if you've run through the map preview i did on fast vis, this should give you a clear idea what the light values should look like.)

if you want to make lighting changes, feel free, as long as they are consistent across maps. (i tend to like darker maps)

as for the visible objects, pleez just compile with it unchecked to avoid any further confusion.

i never had that problem but i've only did fast vis. I guess your big quad core can't handle it? =) (which map btw, rooms.rmf?)

if you can't get that map to compile in a reasonable amount of time, just do it in fast vis.
And no, id like to do the final compile of everything, because i have some additional "surprises" planned for the mod (just small things, nothing spectacular really, but still neat).

No. remember, i requested everyone give me their rad values? those that aren't included in a mapname.rad(the first few maps) are listed in a infotexlights entity. NO map in the series uses the straight lights.rad, it's all custom, even striker's last map, i picked all the light values from the lights.rad and put them in an infotexlights entity. Didn't you play the preview map and notice your lights looked ok? Trust me, your rad values are there.

lul = ) really, don't waste your time. full vis is not crucial in any way for that map, seriously. (i mean, you can if you want but it's truly not necessary imo)

You make me feel like a slacker.

I found some errors were related to a shape that, while not invalid in its original form, rotated (90 degrees) copies of it were actually invalid. Is there a way I can fix that?

Re-rotate them. If you did it by hand, they may be 89 or 91 degrees or some such.
