Hey people so far your help here was really fantastic! I hope I can count on you again.

I want to know how to create a poster with changing textures like in hl1?
You know in Hl1 the Blackmesa propaganda posters changed from time to time and showed then another Blackmesa poster. I want to do the same but I have no idea how to do so. I've checked the tutorial and map section here without any luck. Google search was also unsuccessfull.

I have also checked the original Hl map that had included it but I still don't get it.

Any ideas how to do that? Maybe someone can even create a prefab tutorial map showing how to do that.

Greetings 23-down

The ones used in Half-life were multiple func_rotatings with a different texture on each side- I think in HL's map, each one had two textures, put on 4 sides.
Each time they're textured (after a certain amount of time) they would rotate 90 degrees on their middle. There were three or four of the func_rotatings per poster, if that's any help.

You mean each time they're triggered.

Yeah, which in the Valve map was every X seconds.

I thought it was less, more like IV seconds.

I meant X as a variable.

There's a good way to do it using env_renders. Its a lot of triggers though.

there are TONS of ways you could do this. figure out exactly what you want to do, preferably from a real-life example (there are great examples/methods for ads in tube stations and on city streets), and then go from there..

rim: you mean have one pic fade away while the next one fades in like a screen saver slide show?

Thank you people! Once again with your hints I was able to reconstruct such a poster.. Tommorow I will upload an example map since we don't have such a map yet in the example section.

I am a little late to chime in....as usual...

I do believe those posters were in HL1 and they were in a rotating sign. The actual sign was made a three triangles though--this way they don't hit each other as they turn. I know cause I actually re-created this because I too was fascinated when I first saw it--like 20 years ago.

ha.ha. I know I pick on HL1 way too much....

Half Life 1 has the "toggled" texture anyways so just use that....

The rotating effect is much better than just a toggled texture, kdunivan.

The reason your google search came up empty, 23-down was probably because you're referring to them as posters. The term commonly used is "rotating billboard"

I totally agree huntey....and this is why I re-created it last night...

I had re-made it a while back and couldn't find it so I re-did it last night. If anyone is genuinely interested then I will post it.
