Simple name your favorite band of all time! (one band) and why?

Linkin Park is my favorite band because just about every song is slamming and represents all the energy inside me. I am pretty raw when I want to be.
Grew up listening to classic rock and metal. When I heard linkin park for the first time I was hooked. Not much for Fort Minor, is ok.....

Been my favourite band since I was about 8. Why? I don't know. Guess it's just my taste that got me there.

I don't really listen to bands. System of a Down is pretty great, and Dream Theater is fantastic.
But I much prefer electronic music -- most notably dubstep, as I'm sure I've made very evident in the past.

Above all, Bassnectar is my very favorite.

Other favorites include The Avalanches(turntablism), Mistabishi(DnB and grime) and Broken Note(dubstep and DnB), but each of them only has 1 album.

I don't look for music or lyrics that I can relate to, I look for a sound that evokes a particular emotion.

This is a really tough choice.

It's a tossup between Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, The Fratellis, and The Libertines.

For me, I guess favorite bands would be more appropiate, since there are quite a few bands / genres that I like. Right now, I'm pretty much hooked on Irish / Celtic sounds, like Dropkick Murphys, or their Hungarian equivalents Paddy and the Rats and Firkin.

Other than that, the other bands that would definitely make it in my top 10 are:

• Led Zeppelin
• ZZ Top
• Mark Knopfler
• The Doors
• Pearl Jam
• Nine Inch Nails
• Rage Against The Machine
• Audioslave
• Dub Pistols

...and loads of others I can't recall atm.

There is always one song of theirs that really appeals to me at any given time.

Don't have a particular favorite, for years my top 3 have been: Green Day, Metallica, and Three Days Grace.

Queen.
Because they're (fairly) clean in their music, great tunes, and it's hard not to respect a lead singer who, on his deathbed, nailed his last recording in one go.

My taste in music is always changing, so I couldn't say I have an all-time favorite band as such. Right now, however, I'm sticking to bands like:

• Iron Maiden
• Van Halen
• Deep Purple
• Motley Crue
• Guns N' Roses
• Kiss
• Twisted Sister
• Slade

I like all music, no matter what, but my favourite genre at the moment would have to be Australian Hip-Hop. If you want something different than (and in my opinion better) than classic American-iceing-hoes-with-uzis hip hop, give this a shot.

I just wanted to see what music you listened to soup. my evil plan worked well i see but I do actually remember you mentioning something about bassnectar a while back. I actually have a bunch of old techno computer music from my amiga 1000 (the one I was talking about the other day). some really good stuff too--I will have to set that back up one day and send some of it to you.

I'm like Captain Terror: I don't have a favorite band, and I listen to music according to my feelings...
And my music is as diverse as my feelings:
-classic music(just a few tracks, I don't have a lot of them) for delight/anger/melancholy
-rock for enthusiasm
-pop/"normal music" for ... regular feelings, or how should I define them ....
-electronic music(dnb,trance,bigbeat etc...): when I sense a little doze of adrenaline combined with enthuziasm....

Oh well... I just watched a very cool film, Jeux Interdits(1952), il m'a fait pleurer... the guitar music alone makes me feel sad... that film woke up a lot of feeling in me, it's the best drama I've ever seen...
So for the next days I'll perhaps avoid(not really intentionally) listening to "happy" music

[EDIT] Oh that film just makes me want to be 11 again.... I just love their simplicity and innocence. And the thing that hurts is that, as I grow up, my innocence is lost.... I make contact with the crude world... and after watching films like this I can't just ignore that fact( I'm usually optimistic)...

Australian Hip-Hop

I just threw up a little.

Pink Floyd.
There isn't a single band after floyd which hasn't been inspired by them.
They've got it all. Good guitarplay mixed with synths and organs, upon a quite alright base with the right amount of drums which a lot of bands tend to exaggerate.
And tho they aren't ment to be singers, their voices fit so perfectly into their own music.
They've got a song for every mood you could possibly be in, and their lyrics are poetic and have meaning. Good shit if you ask me

AtDestroy: used to LOVE 3 days grace, but haven't listened to them in a while...

Captain: Underground Communication is the most rap-intensive album by a long shot, I totally understand what you mean. Some of my favorites like Carried Away (still my all time favorite) are on that album, but all in all it's a pretty schizophrenic playlist and I honestly skip right over tracks 3, 7, 9, and 11 every time because I just can't stand them.

The first album, Mesmerizing the Ultra, is mostly instrumental, especially the second CD(which used to be a separate album). It's much easier to get into than the his other stuff, but it's old and he doesn't really do anything like what's on this album anymore.
The latest album, Cozza Frenzy, is a lot like the melodic half of Underground Communication with some rap elements thrown in a handful of songs.

The EPs vary, but I'd say the Heads Up EP is worth checking out for the Roustabout remix alone. The rest of the EP is kinda meh IMO.

Go ahead and run through the album previews to see what you'll like beforehand.

Edit: I forgot to give Sean Hodges a mention in my first post. This is the guy that has been doing music for Krinkel's Madness flash series for a while. He's done some pretty good techno, but there's not a lot to choose from.

Some of it is terrible, but there is alot of good stuff out there.

hip hop by definition is unaustralian.

i've had the displeasure of having to sit through hilltop hoods at two different festivals, and it was honestly like getting punched in the head continuously. except even with all those lost brain cells the music wasn't getting any better.

however, at one of those festivals i got to see some quality australian bands such as kisschasy and eskimo joe. i never realised just how good kisschasy were until i saw them live and the crowd was going absolutely nuts.

on topic, i've really gotten into broken bells, temper trap and mumford & sons recently. top stuff.

My favourite band is, hands down, Swedish sausage-jazz ensemble 50 Hertz. Reminiscent of Slagsm?lsklubben but way more wacky, varied, lyrical and with more melody. Pure bliss!

As of late I've been exploring the more chill-y out-y sides of electronic music and have grown quite fond of it. If anyone's interested, I can recommend (recently deceased artist) Nujabes, Flying Lotus, Nosaj Thing, DJ Shadow, Pluxus's album Solid State. Also, this kid. Enjoyably strange, especially coupled with that gleeful 60's footage. I think he's a young and coming Australian or something?

On a musically unrelated note, have a listen to these three songs, especially if you're Swedish. If not, just enjoy the beats (and the incredibly strange video in #1).

Not sure about favourite band, but chillout/downtempo/ambient stuff is definitely my flavour of the moment.

Bonobo, Nightmares on Wax, Amorphous Androgynous' terribly named compilations, a little Nujabes, some Thievery Corporation I've have for a while now, and other bits & pieces.

Thanks to ZL I have a lot more to look into now. ;]

Oceans between us is their newest album its really awesome. All of there stuff is good thow. They may have if even one song I don't like a lot. I like them because not one or a few but all of their songs are great.

AC/DC is the best, a hard hitting rock and roll band top of their game

I'm not sure I'd call AC/DC rock and roll. More like hard rock to me, as rock and roll = Elvis and that kind of danceable works (I can't imagine dancing to AC/DC)
