Believe me, I did everything I was supposed to do but it still isn't transparent. The blue is index 255 and it is completely blue also. The floor is an entity and I set it to rendermode Solid and 255.

I don't know why it isn't working.

Check the settings again- sometimes they don't set in fsr.
Is there anything under the entity, or does it go into the void?

If it was truly pure blue on index 255 then the blue would be black ingame.

I'd like to take a look at the texture, but you seem to have uploaded the wrong bmp.

Look, I frequently have this problem. It's wally's fault- even though in GIMP( or Photoshop or what you use), you set the blue to pure blue (0 0 255), wally\the compression format may alter that color. All you have to do is edit the pallete in Wally. Select with the color picker the blue that you consider it should be pure blue, and then edit its properties: make it 0 0 255 ;)

You're all overlooking one important question: Does the name of the texture start with {? (like the already existent {blue)

DiscoStu, from what I know "{" is there just to indicate the texture should be used with "solid" mode, it doesn't need to be there. Correct me if I'm wrong.
[EDIT] I will experiment with this.

Man, you can't do that - screenshots are way too dependent on lighting...

I was always under the impression that { had to be there just like ~ has to be there for random textures and + has to be there for animated textures.

I seem to have fucked up.

The { character is required for textures that are supposed to be transparant ingame.

@Striker: did you take a screenshot of a screenshot to check for the index? Jezus what!

It was an example of checking the color index, not checking if the color is right in that screenshot. Please read before you post!

If all else fails, what software are you using to make the texture? That can make every difference as to why it is not working.

EDIT: Totally.

So make it like this, where the blue is the last color.

And here is the fixed one.

For future reference, the masking color can be any color as long as it is the 255th color on the pallette. Blue is the sort of default since the HL textures use it a lot.

It was an example of checking the color index, not checking if the color is right in that screenshot
That screenshot only showed the RGB values, not the actual index! You can only check the index in Wally.

Plus, the index was not the problem at all, it was the { character that was missing from the texturename.

Oh derp. That too. Masking color is the last color and { before the name of the texture in your WAD file.

Is the problem solved yet so we can stop arguing about it?

ya the blue has to be the last color in pallette.

The easiest way to do it is to use wally. Make the blue areas bright green. Copy your texture as a 24-bit image and paste into a open wad file in wally. Add the '{' and wally will automatically make the transparent blue the last texture in the pallet. Then open the texture in the wad in wally and just use wally's fill tool to colour all the green back to blue. Quick and easy.

Yes, the problem is fixed.

Basically all I had to do was change the name.

It doesn't. It needs to be pure blue, that's all. Argh I'll demonstrate this!

No striker, the color that's going to be transparant ingame, has to be on index 255 and not on another index number. And it does'nt nessecarily have to be blue, it can be any color. Heck, you can even make the background pure red and it'll be transparant, as long as it is on the last index of the palette, which is index 255.
