So he was playing a game and he was winning, but then he mysteriously gets dropped. So I was wondering is it possible that another player was able to drop him on purpose (called "drop hacking") in order to pursue an unethical advantage in competition etc. etc.

Chances are, no.

What router does he have, if any?

i dunno, but when I played some guy with a hacked name came in and said he can hack. Then he said he'd demonstrate for me, after that I was inexplicably dropped. This is crazy.

I am thinking about a DOS type attack. Altough I don' think it suits very well the situation you explained, as it mostly happens to sites.

so I just wanted to ask if it was possible. Apparently, it is. People just cheat their way to winning these days it's astounding.

Anyone know how this program actually drops people? Kinda curious about these technical cheating improvisations.

google for 'starcraft hacks'

there are plenty of them... no 'fog of war' hacks, drop hacks, 'only win' hacks, 'only lose' hacks, 'change alliance' hacks..

honestly, starcraft 1 is a blasted mess.

if your trying to play that game without getting hacked nearly every other game, try joining a league for it (search forums or various b.net channels, in game)

Also.. I don't suggest using them yourself.. as to, where they are not being hunted for by administrators as they were in years previous, if someone reports that your using hacks, your account will get permanently banned.
