So before and after the last compo i was working on a little proof of concept/ project just to give me something to do.

I thought to myself "Hey why don't I try to re-create the original Zelda using the vanilla resources available in HL2:EP2?!"

So I began.

Naturally, Half life doesn't feature Octoroks, Moblins, Skeletons, Slimes, Generic Arrow-shooting-enemies, three-headed fireball-spitting dragons; so I had to improvise and substitute as close as possible.

I made the spawn area, and the path onwards to the first dungeon. I have created the first dungeon (still working on the boss) and it's been an incredible learning experience.

I had to develop a system to handle keys, conditional triggering, special parenting, minimap creation... ect
All built using hammer.
I'm still working on a way to display your key count and eventually implement a money system, but those goals are for later.

I can however, release an unfinished version once i figure out the first dungeon boss mechanics.

There's a really good TFC map for it.

One person is Zelda, and everybody else are monsters with lower health/attack who have to try and kill him when they spawn on certain levels. It's really cool.

This is reallly cools shit Tet! I would love to attempt or be of a total conversion like this someday... When i was still mapping goldsource i always planned to make a total conversion for SC or SC2, but I haven't started it at all.

This shit is gonna be awesome when it's done, and i look forward to more media sir. thanks for sharing with us! =)

Awesome idea, I wanted to recreate link to the past with halflife a long time ago.

Also your recreation of kokiri forest from oot was really cool though it could have been a little nicer. Maybe with some more cinematic effects and detailed brushwork. And nicer models. Those spinning gems could have been made better with brushwork/ func_rotates.

oh holy balls so you're gonna translate the 2D to 3D that's gonna be awesome. I have to get zelda for my gameboy sp and play though it. (i'm one of the 6 people on earth that never played it) ;)

I must say this does seem like an excellent way to progress with the Source engine. Another thing I've seen is somebody recreating Office Complex from Half-Life.

Yeah yeah, Black Mesa are already doing it. Sure. However, if you are just focusing on a single chapter, it's not really as ambitious as that AND it gives you a set of problems to overcome.

These kind of projects are really inspirational and each time I see one I want to just up and switch to Source...

God damn it.

IT works in HL2. I know because that's what I played it in like an idiot. The only issues are some missing textures and a room filled with floating error messages. Not sure what they were, but attacking one send me back to the start...

Those are the replacements for the wall masters.
The error is the missing torso model.
I could replace all the EP2 content with HL2 content if you let me know what they are.

No, don't worry about it. I'll play it in HL2 and put up with the missing content. It's my own fault for not having Episode 2 yet.
