There's this new game on kickstarter that proposes a more realistic approach to medieval sword fighting. It's not really a game, they've actually been creating resources for "a game", and now they're almost ready to put them into practice in an arena game, as they say.

Their presentation video has some amusing scenes, but what I want you to be attentive to is 03:03.

The first step to realistic games is to get rid of keyboards and mouses...

As Bruce says, if you want realism, you crate custom controllers.

This was discussed extensively in the shoutbox...
I'm also guessing you didn't watch the video, Bruce, since he says exactly that.

Half of the money donated was because of Gabe. And really stop bitchin around, if you have a pc suck it up and use a mouse/keyboard combo like you have been since the dawn of pc's. If you're an idiot buy a console and enjoy playing overpriced games with a controller.

I am familiar with Wii being responsible for A LOT of that :D, when they introduced "the strap" that number declined. Imagine how ppl will rage with this sword thing :D

That's pretty elitist and narrow minded, Rufee. I find myself agreeing with Bruce.

Back on topic, I'm a huge fan of Stephenson, and it became obvious even in Snow Crash, that he's not a dumbass in the art of sword fighting, especially if he has a team and extensive research behind his back for this project.

On the other hand, as much as I love his novels, he's still not a game designer, and motion controls still suck, if they don't have physical feedback. For example, I can't imagine how they'll integrate that sword A is heavier than the sword B (if it's supposed to be realistic), and how skill is going to count, if you're easily waving arond a light piece of plastic.

what is this thing you're doing with gifs and movie stills lately?

It's unnecessary.
