Either of the first two, I guess. Touch screens suck for gaming.

Random MineCraft question: what's the best way for little kids(9-10) to play would you say? Xbox360? PC? IPad/iPod/tablet?
I believe PC is the most efficient way to play MC. But I suppose, pocket version of minecraft would suffice for some at his/her age. (which is available for tablets, I think)

My land? Impressive?

I would love it if we all lived in the same township or worked together on a single province of land. With the new update, I think people will spread out even further than ever looking for biomes they like.

That would be great. We could pick a good spot and start TWHLtown there.

Is it safe for 9-year-old kids to play on PC, or would it be better if they played on xbox? My friends little girls play on their iPods only atm.

urby: iPad as well?

I can happily say that there are easy ways to control children on PC. I mean seriously you can set-up passwords for everything on PC.

Consoles, not as much, and even less so with Iphones/Ipad/(<--Same things guys-->)Tablets.
The last three are meant to be personal objects, they aren't meant to make it hard for common use. And if your child has any of their own Iphone/Ipad/Tablet (or you're not around while they use yours) and you're concerned about keeping them safe from things on there internet, then why the hell do they have one of these things anywhere near them.

As for;
Is it safe for 9-year-old kids to play on PC, or would it be better if they played on xbox?
9 year olds are KNOWN for tantrums, do you want your kid chucking a $10 keyboard/mouse or a $60+ controller. Or would you like it that the kid grabs the actual XBOX that is made for portablity, while PC's aren't, and slamming that down when they don't get their way. (Unless its a laptop, then... Have fun, I know I had a tantrum once and accidently broke one of my Father's lappy.)

There was a really good quote along the lines of "Expect wonders from your children, good and bad. If you think, 'No, my child would never throw that $100 toy out the window', prepared to be in wonder."
It's in my textbook somewhere, and I don't wanna study to get the exact quote for you guys.

They only have iPod and they are NOT my kids(just to be clear).

The mom will like the advice because she won't have to buy them an Xbox =)

PC all the way.
As a 9 year old i used to play that shitty 25kB super mario with only 4 levels and enjoyed it every single time. A kid does not need more than 2 hours MAX on the PC every day.

As Volpe said, make an account that the kid will use on the PC and restrict internet access past Minecraft.

i have MC Pocket for my Android. It's nice for the random 10-15 stint while bored (doctors office, bathroom break etc) but as far as the Minecraft experience, it's not all there.

There's no cave generation, the levels are finite, there's no animal breeding or enchantments, or nether. It's hard to really care about your world, and I find myself trying to find a good seed more than play and build.

The controls are customizable, however. It plays well for what it is, albeit slowly and it's a bit clumsy at times. The mobs are easier, and the skele-archers aren't nearly as accurate.

I guess if they never knew the wonders of the full version, the Pocket edition would do just fine. Plus the Pocket edition is $6 usd and the PC is now around $24 usd?

For kids, just messing around, I'd say go cheap and go with pocket edition - especially if they already own the hardware.

I was super disappointed to FINALLY harvest enough lava flows to build a portal. I spawn in the nether in a well built cavern then i'm immediately ganked by a ghast and 12 pigmen....

I thought they didn't get aggressive unless you aggro'd them?

Nether portals search for existent portals within a given radius before generating a new one. If you want a portal of your own, travel to the nether and build your own portal closer to your portal in the overworld.

Ghasts always attack you on sight. Pigmen don't, they only attack you if they see you attacking another pigman.

My portal is exactly on the same location on all axes in nether.

X and Z are 8x smaller in nether.

So 1600 / 800 is actually 200 / 100.

Portals link together if there's a minimum distance of 1000 blocks between them.

1000 world blocks or nether blocks?
My portal is around 1530, 1900
I thought that world portals create a nether portal?

Its linking to stojkens which is at 1600, 800

Do the math on that one. Pythagorean style. Our portals are around 1100m apart...

1000m is (in my opinion) too large a search radius.

The odd thing is though.. my portal links to stojkens portal, but if i teleport back out, I'm at stojkens. Plus it takes about 15s of me standing in the portal in order for it to do anything.

Super frustrating.

World blocks. If your overworld portal is less than 1024 blocks away from Stojke's, your portal will lead to the same as his unless you manually build another portal in the nether closer to your own base.

You're taken to Stojke's because his portal is the closest to the one in the nether. Portals take you to the closest portal.
Posted 10 years ago2013-09-26 18:09:20 UTC Post #315950
if your portal is at 1530 / 1900 you must position it at 190 / 240 in nether.

sigh.
Im not sure whether i should move my mainland portal more south or just go to stojkens nether and dig a few hundred blocks south...
decisions decisions...

I would have figured my portal was far enough away from his to generate its own portal in the nether around my base

Yes, it'll be a completely new world, but you might experience bugs and anomalies during gameplay because it's a snapshot.

Also, more people need to agree to this before I create the world.

That is a very good idea. We are all level designers with short time on our hands so it might just work great.

Ok. I will create a new world using the latest 1.7 snapshot in creative mode. When 1.7 is out, I'll create another new world in survival mode. I don't want people to cheat items.
The new creative world is up using the latest snapshot!

To get on the server, create a new profile in your MC launcher and enable experimental snapshots and select 'use latest version'. The launcher will download the snapshot jar and whatnot and you should be able to connect.

Please announce at least 3 days before switching to 1.7 survival.

I want to play from beginning.

Also, you should make it hard difficulty and much bigger land than it was, at least 4x bigger. Infinite isn't such a great idea. But variation and space is a pretty cool idea.

What do you mean, make it bigger? It's going to be a randomly generated world, not a pre-fabricated one like the TWHL planet world.

I think you should too switch from "DEFAULT" world type to much bigger (4x bigger i guess) - "LARGEBIOMES". That would be cool, and so much more space for building.
