how do you make different textures on different sides on a brush ? for example a box should be white on 1 side blue on another and so on

Use Hammer's Texture Application tool. Read about it in Hammer's reclusive help File: Help>Help Topics>User's Guide>Texturing Solids.

Also, I would highly recommend the 'In the Beginning' tutorials on this site.

um yeah, i know how to texture brush, but how to texture it differently from side to side? is that like n00b-knowledge?

an grinch i've read countless tutorials describing different things ,from sequences to "creating a box", so i have a little different experiences ;)

select the box and ungroup it... then add the textures to the individual sides...

if that doesnt work..... make the brush hollow with a thickness of 2 and then ungroup it...

you cant ungroup a box... a hollowed box but not a box...

yes you can ungroup a box! Just open up the .map file in notepad and manually delete all the sides of the box except one, then open the .map in Hammer. Too bad it won't compile :P
