was just playing around with using different models for the hgrunt. anyone had any experience with this. as i'm trying to find out the main errors that can happen, and what the models must have and cannot have (if you know what i mean)
any input would be appreciated

Everthing can happen. From corrupted model file to screwed up animations. What exactly do you want to do?
Make selfmade hgrunt models, make several different grunts appear in one level, use models from other mods? Be more precise!

Since the skeleton has to be the same, also in every bodypart you create. It's just a thing to take care of... :)

easyest way is to change texture if few soldiers i think...

Reskinning is indeed the easiest thing, it can even be done with HLMV if I'm correct.

As for really remodelling, it's best to just start and discover things yourself, and search for tutorials or ask on a forum when you stumble upon a problem. After all, it's the same learning process as with mapping, only a different subject... :)

It's easier to add details and just make the model look better than it's HD counterpart. Reskin the models. Remake the gun holster on barney, redraw his ID tag, give him a radio, give him a little strap around his helmet and stick things up there (cards, smokes, pics, etc, lol). little details like this can improve the model and give it a more realistic feel. Or change the hgrunt heads. Like my av ;) . (Not mine, BTW, but from the HIT site.) Speaking of HIT (Half-Life improvement team) They might be a good resource for modeling. Google 'em.

Yup you can reskin them in HLMV. It's merely a new bitmap over the old one.

for sure, i'm familiar with the whole reskinning (cs freak :P).
but i tried using a cs ct model by renaming it and trying it out as a grunt.
it was all white and black and non-base-colour colourless (lol)
the anims must have worked fine. he still behaved normally, just looked crap.
and also i want to re-model the head of the zombies.
i'll see if a friend of mine can do it i guess.

why would that change the textures though? the hgrunt models are as follows:
hgrunt
hgrunt01
hgrunt02
hgrunt03
hgruntt

i get errors trying to ipmort hgrunt - hgrunt03 in hlmv (trying to edit tex's). and hgruntt is a set of textures with no model. so hmm. maybe put together the textures in a model and name it hgruntt. jeez. :/
i still wouldn't mind to know how, if it can de done ;)

You can't load anything from hgruntt-hgrunt(number) as they don't work in HLMV. Changing the texture in the main hgrunt fiel should change the textures for all of the hgrunt(number) files.

so there's no way to just change the models?
pity that cs models don't work :/

The numbered models are sequences. Since I don't fully understand your problem, go to http://hl-improvement.com/forums for model help.

you can change model, but then you must be genious, or have 10 people to do it for you... or more...
