Aye, but quick question, maybe you can answer it.

Is a car or a plane considered a machine? If you think about it, they are, kind of. Me has a good idea for sequences with planes or cars...

E-mail Andy here.

I haven't actually got to the machine yet. I've just done flashy stuff. Been awhile since I mapped last, so I'm having some fun :)

Aye (armageddon???) :)
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-23 08:35:49 UTC Post #35625
I'd say a plane or a car could be classed as a machine. I also get the feeling that taking the compo in a non-literal way is likely to impress Atom (does he judge it?) I had the idea of a spaceship/plane. I also went noclipping around the HL tram intro nd there are some nice machines there (the welding machine etc) Ive been thinking big teleporter machine thing lately but thats been done so many times before.

Even this post won't stop me entering, only lazyness will :(
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-23 14:25:36 UTC Post #35739
It seems as if the biggest problem of all the advanced mappers here is lazyness. It's one of my problems, too. But holidays've just begun, so I have time, time and time again. Mapping, compiling and eating will be everything I'll do the next six weeks.

Don't think, do it!
Mapping is essential!
How can you 'think about it'?

I might not have enough time to complete this assignment, and mapping a machine is out of my ability. I will see what I can do. IF I were to participate, I would need to be done in 3 days. Too little time, seeing that I am going on another stupid vacation.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-23 19:05:30 UTC Post #35847
There's still 19 days left.
Don't you have a laptop or so?
Why do you go on vacation so often?
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-23 19:48:23 UTC Post #35849
I am a busy man, and were I'm going, there is no internet connection, computers, or indoors. for a fricken week! Thats what I get for joining the stupid boyscouts young, but when I get my Eagle, I'm outa there! Eagle looks good on a college application ;) .
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-24 02:10:35 UTC Post #35900
What I usually do when I don't have a computer at hand is sketching and thinking out a level. Preparing myself for the mapping so to say. It's a lot easier to map when you have a clear idea in mind. And sketches often help me getting a coherent style and continueing area's without endlessly mapping parts again. :)

Warhammer 40k... I used to play Catachan but I've stopped long ago. I found level-design to be of much more interest to me.

Enough talking for me now. Let's get busy. Succes to ya all!

As I told BL, don't think about it, just do it.
The chances to win are 1:entryamount.

Posted 20 years ago2004-06-24 18:19:55 UTC Post #36127
Just for fun: my process of development.
  • made two new animations for the spiggot.mdl :P
  • built a big power generator and some fancy stuff without any purpose yet
  • creating a new texture right now
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-24 18:20:02 UTC Post #36128
I might enter. But I doubt I will ever get around to finishing my map.
m0p m0pIllogical.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-24 21:22:58 UTC Post #36149
damn this sux for me i still gotta find out how to compile but my map is pretty mutch done(everything except the machine)and i made my first animated texture with wally lol you can all see it when you dl it if i can ever compile it
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-24 21:40:33 UTC Post #36150
You should check the Compiling tutorials. Hammer also tells you how to set up the compiling stuff.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-25 03:33:37 UTC Post #36213
My process? So far 60% of the level is planned out and 40% is sketched already. The rough outline has been established for about 30%, custom textures and models haven't been done yet. So I'll have some work to do coming days... :)

As for getting idea's... I have some sources of inspiration I'm bookmarking now and then. Always handy to stock up on idea's.

%40 done.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-25 11:09:22 UTC Post #36292
Could you like use a model for the machine or at least parts of it?
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-25 11:11:45 UTC Post #36293
I think it's okay as long as the main part is not a model.
Some details that wouldn't fit onto the grid can be made with models.
