ok i made my first map..woot.. nuthin bog just a box and a starting point for both teams... i cant figure out how to put sky in... i walked around on the map
but where it was black it did that thing where it trails the other textures, i basicaly need to know that and how to set it up like an fy map also how do place guns on the floor would be nice, and is there anything i need to put in for selecting teams cause when i tested it it just placed me on sum team i guess and i started walkin......

Map-Map Properties and type a skyname. Here's a list, assuming you map for cstrike. If not, there are diff names for Half-Life and TFC.

backalley
badlands
blue
city1
des
drkg
forest
green
grnplsnt
morningdew
office
snow
snowlake_
trainyard

As for guns like fy_ maps (eww) just place an armory_entity in your map and set the type of gun through the property dialog. I have no idea about team selection, I think it's automatic if you play with more people.

ok thanx i found a tourtal on sky stuff as well,((http://cs-maps.jolt.co.uk/index.php?page=skies.htm)) and hopefully i will get it... though i have steam and never installed hl or cs as won install so i had to get the cstrike.wad from a friend, but i dont see a sky texture in there.. im assuming he has the half-life.wad and thats what i need for skys or so it says in the tourtal, dont even know if i can use that without having to send a wad with my map.... cause basicaly i just want to make a very simple map that doesnt use any extra .wads for my first map .... and im assuming that when i was "running" the map all those leak msges were cause of no sky?? i dunno but im a quick learner and with your guys master experties im sure it will all come to me easaly

It's in the game GCF/PAK for WON. Just put the texture named sky where you want the sky. In map-properties just set the name to one of the names above. Ignore teh cl_

the skyname stuff is spot on, so is the armoury_entity to place weapons on the ground (i won't go into pistols - not now anyway)

the team placement is as such:

create a point based entity, and highlight it, press Alt+Enter, and change the entity to an info_player_start [this is the ct spawn]
for terrorists, change the entity to info_player_deathmatch
then insert another point based entity and change it to an info_map_parameters, where it says weapon buying in the properties dialog, change that to neither team can buy

if you don't have any of those entities, then go to the VERC and search for an fgd

if you use halflife.wad/cstrike.wad/cs_bdog.wad, it doesn't mean you have to include any wads, all steam users have these (and others) as standard.

he's right about the sky tho. you just need to name it sky and it'll be fine. but you really should get the halflife.wad, for the sake of it.
you use steam? get gfcscape (nem's tools, search google)

ok thanx for the team stuff and the other standerd .wad i didnt know about very usefull thanx for that... its funny you should mention pistols cause that was my next question.....HOW DO I GIVE EVERYONE DUELIES!!!?!?!?! thats all i need to know i have the map all layed out 12 spawns for each team gcf scape doesnt work for me..... i read sumwhere i could use wally ??? or ill just have my friend send them to me... ill get the sky done here by today after work... cause i really need to work on my texturing (it looks ugly so far)

thanx you very much! but im still having trouble on the sky thing ive made the extentions on my walls with the sky texture, but i dont understand how to make the brush on top.... there is no creat brush button on hammer.....
sry im such a noob.....

There's a block button on the toolbar with a white block. That's create brush. May I recommend reading over the tuts again?

and GCFscape needs the NET Framework, also on Nem's site (under GCFscape, its 23mb or something.)

oooohhhhhh well gee wizz everyone makes it sound confusing.... everyone is calling it BRUSH when its a FRIKIN BLOCK TOOL and all i need to do is make a block cieling and put the sky texture on it......... but i so appreciate you guys taking your time to post and helping me get past my block tool in my head..lol im so used to doing stuff in VUE de'sprit where you have all kinds of goodies to play with.. or terragen..... im gonna write a makeing skys for dummies tutorial...
