FPS means frames per second, although if you are describing game genres, First person shooter (like HL!).

And what other stuff?

the other stuff that comes up when you type r_speeds 1 in the consol like ms, wpoly, epoly.

the fps can not possibly be 0
then its something wrong

ms = milliseconds taken to draw screen
epoly = model polys
wpoly = map polys (I think)

epoly = model polies
wpoly = solid brush polies (meaning those you have created in WC)

As SlayerA said, all your qestions answered and then some in R_speeds.
I doubt you have 0 fps I would be more inclined to think it would be 0 ms ? which is good... 0 fps is very bad.
Congratulations to those who identified the epoly count correctly as polygons created by models, and not as entities (or entities as we know them).

if the console is 'down' in openGL mode it will always come up as 0fps,
the r_speeds output stops when the console is 'down' in software
