Okey dokey, i'm working on a HER-UGE mapping project, and i'd gotten to the first stage I wanted to be at before I tested it. So I try to compile, and everything goes fine up until the end of the .bsp generation. Here's the part of the log:

BSP generation successful, writing portal file 'C:ts_rooftops.prt'
Error: ReadSurfs (line 1): 228 > g_numplanes

--- END hlbsp ---

And from there, it didn't work, gave me the 'your map contains an error that must be fixed' thing and I don't know what this error is, or how to fix it. PLEASE someone help me, I want to finish this map, as it is going to ROCK! :(

i've come across this alot before and it almost always means that there is either an entity outside of the world or that two of the brushes are over lapping. unfortunately halflife cant deal when two brushes exist in the same place. unless you can spot where youve gone wrong its probably best to start over. especially with complicated maps.
I hope that helps.

occasionally if you put in a brush and it segments but stays in a group then an error in the editor caused the problem. delete the weird brush and try again.

You can have two brushes in the same place/overlapping. It's not recommended, though, as it looks really stupid.

yeah, I hate it in maps where when a door closes and it crosshatches with the brush or wall it goes in to. Remember people to put a 'Lip' number in the properties of the door so this doesn't happen!!!
